Class Balance

This is an opinion, not factual. But input is heavily desired!

I feel as if blizzard has missed the mark very heavily and has not adapted to the player base being far more skilled than 13 years ago. Primarily the inability to recognize this the atrocity that unfolded with unholy dks for the the entirety of phase one.

While they come up with logical and sound decisions to buff or nerf classes, they have FAILED heavily in attracting players and retaining them .

STRONG EXAMPLE

Tanks across the spectrum are problematic and across all realms having notable impacts on player base. There is a massive SHORTAGE of tanks to available player ratios. Yet, blizzard provides a buff to paladins DPS spec, further justifying pally tanks to abandon tanking to play DPS.

Having worked as a business administrator for many years, the business model of applying a buff like that, knowing all too well the shortages is flat out the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

Why not buff druids and warriors?

They are both awful and require a high skill cap to be remotely successful. There are already far too many death knights who think they are god tier DPS and paladins have the best tank and healing spec. Why in your right mind would you buff one DPS spec and further coax people into creating further shortages?

I just want to know what people think, because the way that I see things now and I know blizzard does as well. WOTLK will be a hot stinking pile of garbage by ICC. There will NOT be enough tanks to support the player base into community raiding.

Streamers have ruined the game for tanks in general. But come.on blizzard…stop being so god damn stupid.

Buff warrior and druid tanks, put some competition out there. Your idiocy has been noted by the player base, streamers and other forum trolls.

Do better, atleast in my opinion, buff smarter!

P.S.- stop stroking paladins so hard, it’s disgusting.

Why would anyone playing the best tank in game, who’s always desired, to go play a spec that is still doing pretty trash? Pally’s are still below middle of the pack, so why would they give up being an S+ tank to go play a below middle of the pack dps, especially if there’s as big of a shortage on tanks as you claim? They’re needed… pally dps isn’t, and will likely still be passed up quite regularly in pugs. As someone who main’s holy paladin, and OS prot… couldn’t be me. I fail to see the logic in this.

The data is already out. Ret’s went from being slighty under fury warriors to being slightly over fury warriors. The buff only really added 400-500dps to their baseline.

There are four classes that can tank dungeons just fine. It’s hard to find a tank because people don’t want the extra responsibility.

I’m not disagreeing with your logic, because it is sound. But realistically, ret paladin s are already outperforming fury warriors. You can look at the DPS logs and see that the buff scales higher than anticipated.

And there is no claim of a tank shortage, it’s a fact. The implosion of Earthfury actually started with some of the points that I have broughten up. Fewer tanks, fewer raids, fewer people remained interested in the game.

While warrior tanks and bear tanks can find homes, they are incredible undesired by a huge community of players. So when trying to PUG they are often frowned upon. Forcing players to look for Paladins or Dks. To which, DKs are heavily represented as dps as compared to tanks.

The same is now true of paladins, four of the tanks in my guild have already swapped and said repeatedly they are bored of tanking. The same could probably be said of a percentage of the same class in player base.

The overall logic currently that I’m trying to stress and which you are not seeing. Blizzard failed us all by buffing one singular class and now driving less available tanks.

Paladin tanks are god tier, not S tier. If you don’t believe that, go to warcraft logs and check damage reduction percentages as compared to others.

Plus they get a second chance if they or a healer fails. No other tank gets that or even matches that mitigation.

To argue that point would be moot and shows the glaringly obvious amount of people who are to blind to realize the failures of quality balancing.

Is there? I’ve been on break from WotLK for a bit but when I was playing, well past Naxx being on farm, I actually had a hard time finding a group as a tank (which is my main spec) because there just weren’t any groups for them. I spent most of my time doing DPS just to get into groups.

I always just chalked it up to dual spec doing it’s work, along with the reward box (which is so poorly implemented imho). That was for dungeons btw. While I could find the occasional group as a tank there, I couldn’t get in a PuG raid as a tank to save my life. DPS only.

So yea, I find it surprising that people feel there’s a tank shortage. Maybe it’s time to dust off my wotlk character and tank some dungeons?

Solid points…

The problem is DPS gear and tank gear doesn’t synergize like healing and caster DPS gear does. It’s more trouble to offspec tank, two sets of gear, glyphs, and level of responsibility is very different.

The raid layout is an issue too. You need 2 tanks in 25. You need 2 tanks in 10m. There will always be a structural geared tank shortsage because 25m doesn’t require 5 tank fights.

One other big point is Tank gear being better than dps gear and tanks consistently being robbed of their BIS items from Death knights, etc.

Blizzard had made a dramatic failure of the game, they knew what was going on in the PTR and Private Servers yet decided to let it all unfold and try and pick up the pieces now.

If anything, Blizzard, to recover what is already happeing (major downward trend in player base) should optimize buffs to all healers and tanks not listed as a Paladin or Death Knight and put some vitality in those classes needing it.

I personally think it would regain some players that were consistently abandoned or left to fend for themselves because streamers told the player base that their class sucks.

But…

BLIZZARD doesnt read these and thinks the game is perfect currently

Love the new changes  finally something for paladins!

Lmao, something for paladins? While they are already the best tanks and healers? Screw the rest of the player base, lets prove how much we dont care about other classes by buffing Paladins in DPS now.

Garbage antics, garbage buff, garbage whining player base.

Issue is the buff didn’t change anything.

It isn’t like this small buff to their damage is changing the meta, most guilds brought 1 ret prior to the buff and they are still bringing 1 ret pally after the buff.

It isn’t like this buff would cause you to have a ret stack lol.

All this change did was make the boss die 5 seconds faster.

Accurate take for real

Didnt change anything? have you not payed attention? Ret paladins now outscale the very class they mentioned to bring them in line with

In 2 weeks or so, with changing attuenement of stats which is already happening. Ret will vastly outscale fury warrior

Its a fact, not a opinion. Go watch Scottijaye talk about it and look at Sims. Ret gets gross lol

And we brought one of each of those prior to this buff and we will bring one of each of those after this buff…

Just like pretty much every guild

The numbers themselves are meaningless.

Would like to add to this.
The potential toxicity from an increasingly toxic playerbase.

Speaking purely from a raid perspective you weren’t bringing ret for their damage you were bringing them for their utility.

You brought 1 for an extra divine sac.

Nothing changed from a raid comp perspective, the buff shouldn’t of happened sure but the 500 DPS they got doesn’t change the fact you’re bringing 1 for divine sac and that’s it.

You’re literally whining in your posts…

Rets are mediocre. There is no great tanking shortage. Yall need to stop complaining.

No they don’t. Not even close.

My guild just informed me we are dropping all mages, warlocks and hunters to stack 7-9 rets.

Yep poor downtrodden Paladins never get anything good eh … lol

I thought this was meant to be a buff for Ret and not the Paladin class as a whole?

The difficulty I have with all this is that you can’t cleanly separate a spec from its class. Many players see themselves strictly as a spec and a role player - and I see the Ret case for these players.

But many (probably a majority) actually see themselves as playing a class. This is why dual spec is so popular - because an awful lot of people like switching roles. It’s also why hybrids are generally more popular than pures (except Warrior).

You can’t easily buff a role for a class without that buffing and changing the balance for the whole class itself. There are Prot and Holy players that will want to go Ret if Ret is strong enough.

Now, is this a problem? I mean, I see the OPs point but doesn’t this also pave the way for Warrior Tanks to get a spot? I don’t know how this will pan out but I do think it was short sighted of Blizzard to drop a buff on such a consequential class without committing to a more comprehensive balancing policy. At the end of the day though - it wasn’t a huge buff and It might not have much impact at all … we’ll see. But the approach Blizzard took is borked.

Because being S teir tank and healer wasnt enough, lol.
