Clarity please on Water Strider

That is why I will not buy from the shop, you buy a mount one day, the next day Ion changes the look, the shape or the ability lol.

personally Im DONE with Ions drama loving sort.
Seems to thrive on the chaos he and his team causes.
when he’s gone, I’ll check out the game again.

Still a step that I didn’t have to do before that I do now. It’s an inconvenience and I gain nothing from it that I don’t already have. I’m having to do more to get the exact same functionality that I have now. Blizzard is taking something away and making me do something extra to get it back. Feels bad, man.

And if their reason for doing it really is what they say, well, then they didn’t have to handle it this way. There’s no valid reason either of us should have to lose out, which, again, makes me wonder what their real reason is for handling the situation this way.

And flight will be taken in 9.0, as is the current trend. Is Blizzard also planning on reverting the other mount changes with 9.0? No? Then don’t make unnecessary changes now…

Except it is being removed as a passive ability on the Waterstrider.

Let’s also not forget what this really is: A way to delay flight even further in the next expansion because “your ground mounts have so much more functionality now”…

Exactly.
Why even play this game…why grind for ANYTHING when they can and WILL just rip it away from you any time the mood strikes.

I paid $60 for a stinking boost for a hunter and BOOM…they nerfed the pet nearly immediately.
As hunter stands right now I wouldnt even waste a free boost for one. Theres no way Id have wasted $60 freaking bucks for it.

So done with this game until they get some adults to run the show again.

changes happen in the game all the time. i’ve grinded for or paid gold for all sorts of things that have changed, become cheaper or free. poor me. it’s the nature of mmo’s. this one actually comes with a benefit. sounds like a win. i’m just not someone who thinks they’re getting played because there is some conceivable way that i can be a victim in the situation, no matter how trivial it is.

cow = tauren. your point before was the change violates realism. i actually think this point is reasonable, much moreso than most itt. but we’re flying around on magical dragons here and have walking cows riding bugs on water. having water striders water walk innately makes more realism sense than not, but taking it away is hardly something to get up in arms about when the game violates realism all the time.

It’s the whole thing that bothers me. It’s that my water strider is losing functionality that I currently utilize and enjoy. It’s that now there’s extra expense and extra time and extra steps, that, minor though they are, still mean that at the end of the day, Blizzard has taken something away from me and is making me do something extra to get back functionality equal to what I have now.

Will I like not being limited to just the ugly bug? Eh, probably. Will I feel like it’s a worthwhile trade off? Time will tell, but my gut feeling is that I’m losing more than I’m gaining on this one.

I cant believe anyone actually wanted this change.
How preposterous.
This game has become a laughing stock.
ESO doesnt even have flight or maybe even water walking that Ive seen and somehow its 1000 time better than the crap Ion and his team have created with this monstrosity.

regarding why they’re handling it this way - they might have a better answer than me. but assuming your preferred fix would be leaving water striders with walking, then adding an item that applies to everything else.

your response is exactly why they’re doing it this way. the whole point is to stop everyone from using just the water strider all the time. if the change was made as you want, you’d just keep using it anyway. and so would everyone else. because it wouldn’t make sense to do anything other than use the water strider for water walking and add the daze item. it’s certainly what i’d do. and then we’d be in this same situation with 90% of people using 1 mount all the time. and when the actual trouble they’re introducing by doing it this way is so minor, it seems like a no brainer. that is my thinking, anyway.

The mindset that as long as the inconvenience “isn’t gamebreaking” and the expense “isn’t expensive”, these incremental downgrades are fine, is why Blizzard is able to get away to chipping away at the game piece by piece.

It’s amazing to me that people can’t look at the clear pattern of development and see that we’re going to continue to receive more nerfs presented as improvements. Maybe they’re just convinced that the design philosophy will never touch anything that matters to them.

It almost seems like theyre sending in employees or something to try to convince us.
too hard to believe that paying customers would be ok with having crap they did the grind for STOLEN from them and then sold back.
Nearly impossible to believe, actually.
In fact, I dont believe it at all.

That’s still a user problem and not a mount problem. Who cares how many people use the water strider? If the mount bothers someone enough, they should make the choice to take advantage of the option to use water walking on their other mounts and use one of those. If one really wants to min/max mounts, then deal with the strider and put something else on the other mounts.

Choices have consequences.

But, no, that wasn’t what I was thinking at all. Your assumption is wrong.

Blizzard could simply add more water walking mounts. Hell, I think the bug is ugly as all get out and would love another option. Blizzard could make the items function at the mount level instead of at the character level. Let me put water walking on the mount or mounts of my choice and something else on other mounts. Blizzard could make it so that the effect isn’t an item at all, but a trait linked to types of mounts. Maybe turtles and water striders and cranes have water walking but bears and wolves and cats are anti daze. I’m just pulling stuff out of thin air, but you get the gist.

I think that’s what bothers me most about the way they’re implementing it. They could implement a comparable system that actually provides more choices and more variety and more options in a way that actually adds content to the game, but instead they’re adding a system that takes away one option and adds a very limited other.

nah, you just don’t have any argument at all, except for saying that people who don’t agree with you are employees.

man you’re just gonna lose it when the next expansion comes out and you see that all that damage and item levels you gained are STOLEN from you and you have to GRIND it back again. it’s a slap in the FACE!

i personally am still waiting on my gold reimbursement for dual spec’s becoming free. my face is still red.

I think I said it best a few posts ago…

having the knights trying to convince us its ok just makes it more insulting.

And it’s an equipment system, just like artifact weapons and azerite armor. You’d think players would have learned that these “rental ability” systems never last long.

Good god…PLEASE dont go making any actual sense here.

Yes, thank you. That’s where I was going with that thought but got distracted and didn’t finish it. The last thing this game needs is another system that’s even more subject to the whim of The Powers That Be than other aspects of the game.

i have had many lols from this thread because of certain reactions lol

i imagine like most things, how it is implemented will be refined over time. i don’t know that i love it being an equipment piece. i could see it becoming something like a talent eventually.

This feels like complaining just for the sake of complaining.

First, all of your characters will still be able to waterwalk, the only difference is your main will just have to pay a quick trip to Anglers to buy a massively discounted waterwalking item for your alt.

If you didn’t have a water strider before, then you couldn’t waterwalk before anyway. Now you can. You’ll just have to pay top dollar for it.

Secondly, now EVERY mount (except the sky golems but that’s a seperate and likely valid complaint to make) can waterwalk. No longer are you either stuck using the water strider while leveling or forced to swap mounts every time you want to cross water. This may or may not matter to you but many of us prefer using our favourite thematic mounts, not the utility mounts.

Thirdly, waterwalking is rarely even a big deal. Typically at most while leveling you’ll just cross the occasional small river or go around a small lake. There are very few areas where waterwalking actually gives an advantage, especially with flying enabled post 60, and soon to be unlocked for BFA.

Finally, this compromise comes with an incredibly much sought after bonus - a permanent solution to the daze mechanic. All non-tanks and anyone who doesn’t have natural shields equivalent to an extra 1/3rd of their health like I do will love this no daze equipment. Waterwalking is only useful in a handful of places, but anti-daze is useful damn near everywhere.
