Clarity please on Water Strider

So as it stands, we will have the basic mounts, ground and flying. According to what you put in the slot determines if they can walk on water, shun stuns, or parachute. There apparently will be no other mount options as that would negate the need for changing the slot items as they are so proudly promoting. /smh

Imagine buying a new car. You work hard & pay off that car & have good credit. A few days after the car is paid in full, the Department of Public Safety is in your driveway taking out the headlights. You see they are doing this for everyone in the neighborhood. Not only do they remove the bulbs, they completely dismantle the headlights so they wonā€™t work at all. You can still use the car. You just cannot use it any time that you might need to have your lights turned on like at night time. The DPS then proceeds to tell you that if you want working headlights, you must pay an additional fee. But if you choose to have working headlights, you must forfeit reclining seats & adjustable steering wheels. Then to top it all offā€¦ you must list all the people that will be driving the car and pay an additional fee for each one of them.

But wait! It gets better!
If you get the headlights, then decide you need to have the seat adjusted because it is hurting your back, you have to pay another fee. So you get your seat adjusted & really need to have your headlights backā€¦ yepā€¦ you guessed itā€¦ another fee!

All this for something you & the rest of the world originally had when you bought the car to begin with.

This is what this fiasco with the Water bug mount is like.

Is it a little silly? Sure.
Me though, grab the free mailed item, put it onto my strider and designate it my waterwalking mountā€¦ like I do nowā€¦ lol

To make such a commotion over thisā€¦ kinda baffles me but it wouldnt be the first time seeing as this is GD.

If anything Blizzard should just exempt the strider and the other items give people choices to use other mounts as waterwalkers.

More info I guess will come out once PTR hits.

So then ALL my mounts will be water walking? What if I donā€™t want all water walkers? That was the point of the Water Strider for me. I used barding and stirrups or hoofplates on my main mount, that I made with my alts. Now you take all that away??? So you take my reward mount away, my income from professions away and this is good for who??? NOT FOR ME!!!

You can use different equipment on different characters, if that helps.

But itā€™s not an overall buff.

I should be able to have a strider than can water walk and for my other mounts have a different piece of equipment slotted. Just like we will have for the herb picking mounts.

Well if you are Falling Jops, I would suggest using the equipment slot to assist your Mount to immediately Flyā€¦

roflsnort!

Seriously though, I wish they just re-enable gliders in dungeons/raids, even if they degrade their behavior to DHā€™s shorter distance glide. At least my main can try to [goblin jump] to survive a long fall, if lag doesnā€™t mess up my timing too much.

Quit spamming the forums they have already done so. The whole reason we are getting the new mount equipment system is so they could kill the mount as it was a problem.

Itā€™s not a net benefit if I have to purchase an item to enable all of my alts to have the same functionality I have right now, with no extra cost or hassle.

I view this as a pure buff. Paying a nominal amount of gold to water walk on alts is hardly objectionable let alone the catastrophe you want it to be, and there is the large benefit of using all your mounts again instead of 90% of people on water striders 90% of the time.

If that isnā€™t removed, if we leave water striders buff alone and let your other mounts have the buff equipment for say dazed, weā€™ll end up in the same exact scenario. 90% water striders all the time. I know in that scenario Iā€™d just equip the anti daze and continue to use the strider all the time.

This is a much more equitable setup - if they had forseen the problem the strider was going to cause, this is the system they wouldā€™ve given from the start, and youā€™d have been totally fine with it.

Sorry, remind me of the actual problem? I mean, I know what Blizzard says, but I donā€™t see why itā€™s a problem. Too many people using a specific mount? So? Too many people feeling obligated to use that mount? Thatā€™s a user problem; not a mount problem and there are plenty of ways that Blizzard could have resolved that problem without taking away any functionality from anyone at all.

Ask yourself why Blizzard is implementing this in this way and think about conveniences of the game that you enjoy that could be on the chopping block next.

What do you do for your alts? Because the item is for all mounts on a character, not per mount account wide. So your one free pair of water walking shoes isnā€™t going to allow you to ā€œput it on your striderā€ and continue as you are now, unless you only have one toon.

I barely play my alts to even need water walking, so ā€¦ or just buy it. No issue for me.

A water walking bug that cant walk on water.
Brought to you by the jokers who make a ship that doesnt float.

they havenā€™t removed a convenience i enjoy. so thereā€™s that.

yes, to solve the problem of a mount having a feature that no others do that basically makes its use required in bfa areas, or otherwise in latest content areas*. i canā€™t help but feel like youā€™re being disingenuous calling this a user problem as opposed to a mount problem, as though everyone chooses to use it just for no reason at all. the issue is caused by the mount functionality being unique.

*i just leveled an alt to 80, before this change was made. i have yet to use my water strider once. i havenā€™t even thought about needing it. on my main, i use it nearly exclusively. and if i DID want it on my alt, paying 200 gold or even the full 1000 gold to get it is perfectly fine. we pay many times that for flying and other mount related stuff already.

yeah?
Well Ive got about 50 characters, so for me it is an issue.

Conversely, I use(d) the Stider all the time when leveling new characters thru classic content.

so pay the as of yet unknown amount of gold for the item. like you do for mount riding and flying and everything else. getting this worked up over having to pay an extra unknown amount of gold, but significantly less than 1000, is crazy, when it brings along with it the benefit of being able to use more than 2 of 500+ mounts in the game.

my level 80 zandalari troll, on a new to me server, has 2k gold. oh man 200 gold (estimated) to buy water walking is just going to make me quit right naoo. that amount is equivalent to free - just enough so that you donā€™t buy 1000 equipments and swap back and forth every time you reach water.

so iā€™ll make a suggestion that maybe is a middle ground - the equipment is free once youā€™ve unlocked the water strider. but you have you be in org to swap it.

Do you play on 50 characters daily while needing waterwalking ? lol I honestly doubt it.
