Clarity please on Water Strider

Did you earn the water strider rep on all you alts? Or are you just using it account wide?

Can you see the difference? Your main can buy the equipment and send it to the alts, sounds like.

You weren’t here when mounts were character bound, were you? Can’t remember when mounts went account wide but you got to use the strider on your newbies for all these years. You couldn’t do that before.

Also, going back to this statement…

There are still parts of this game that I enjoy. Fewer and fewer, but I still enjoy and am not ready to give up on it. I want to continue to enjoy the game, not just this xpac, but the next and the next. I consider what changes made now mean for the future of the game because I want the game to have a future.

Living in the moment is, well, as you said of me and others, short sighted.

The game was ruined long before this.
Again…Crap WE WORKED FOR SHOULDNT BE STOLEN FROM US BECAUSE WE CHOOSE TO LEVEL IN DUNGEONS AND NOT RUN EVERY QUEST WITH ALTS.

The new system is far more inclusive and rewarding than one that required grinding of old content. It is a shame there is so much short-sightedness going around about it.

I damn well hope Blizzard sticks to their guns on this.

Savor those 2 years, as it is changing in a few months.

ah…so if YOU are offended then its ok…but if someone else takes offense then you make personal attacks.
I said something in here about apathy before somewhere.

Can I also count on blizzard stealing crap I work for every few months…and then having to listen to white knights telling me I shouldnt mind paying $$$ for a game every month, grinding out crap and having it taken?

uh… there is no bridge bro.

you have to swim out to the little islands with the defias dudes… you have to swim out to the salvage quests.

do you even quest bro?

Um… if they treated the water strider the same way they said that they are going to treat the sky golem, why (assuming that you applied the no daze equipment to the rest of your mounts) would you continue using the water strider all the time?

I do not think that word means what you think it means, Mr. Bangy. In your 2 short years in the game, you shoulda picked up on the fact that it continues to change and evolve…and that sometimes that means things are removed or retired. Get used to it.

Now, I believe the DMF is gong to close in an hour, though I am never sure if the times are server time or local time or what. But I have a truckload of alts to ferry through for their +5s, so I shall have to wait for the 'morrow to savor your dulcet tones again.

As they say in Blade Runner, “have a better one.”

Calm down, I thought you meant going the other way, towards the west. If I recall, though it has been awhile since leveling in Dustwallow, the salvage quests give you a diving helm that increased swim speed. I’d say that somewhat alleviates the necessity of water-walking.

Some of the real problem here is that people confuse necessity with convenience.

Then your point is exceedingly infantile, to be honest. All we’re concerned about is what is coming next patch, not being a pearl-clutching worrywort about it will play out in 9.0 or 10.0.

Are those really the only two possibilities you can imagine? The current system or the one coming in 8.2? That’s… unfortunate.

I can imagine a system in which there are many types of water walking mounts available from a wide variety of sources. Maybe even one sold by a vendor for a small amount of currency in low level zones so brand new players don’t have to wait 'til level 90 or 100 to get a water walking mount.

I can imagine a system in which mounts are classified by type and each type has a different ability. I can even imagine a system in which the abilities are at the mount level across all characters (since mounts are account wide, now) instead of the character level.

My point is that if the only options you can fathom are now and what Blizzard is implementing in 8.2, then I’m afraid you’re the one who’s short sighted. This has the potential to be fabulous and useful to everyone, but not the way Blizzard is planning to implement it.

Simple, just add new and different water walking mounts in each new expansion.

The major differences here are:

  1. If the water striders retain their passive water walking you will still have the mount equipment slot open for all your other mounts. So you can use that slot for your parachute or anti-daze on you other 100+ mounts. The way it seems to be explained is the equipment is not mount by mount, but your get 1 slot for all your mounts on one character. So it’s all or nothing for each character.

  2. If the water striders retain their passive water walking, players who have the striders won’t have to swap out and buy (again) water walking, which many of us have grind reps for, and paid for the mount. I myself have both.

  3. The water striders’ water walking is accessible to any of your characters that can use mounts (level 20 and paid for riding). From what’s been said, you have to buy the equipment for each character you want it on. So you will have to level to 20, buy riding, and buy the equipment.

My concern is if these the equipments are tied to tradeskills, how long before Blizzards gets tired of this idea and trashes it leaving us with a broken water strider and another half baked feature (looking at your glyphs!). Also what’s the b barrier to entry to make these? Are the mats going to be some drop from a raid boss that won’t be highly farms come next xpack, or are these going to be something some starting BFA tradeskills could make?

sorry …that they put the water walking back in means it WASNT removed OR retired.
They just found a way to abuse it.

Ok, let me clarify my quote.

WoW…an original idea.
Probably something that hasnt happened in a Blizzard office in 10 years.

the diving helmet (which only has a one hour real-time duration and replaces your head slot item) is rewarded at the end of the quest chain… at which point it’s mostly useless :stuck_out_tongue:

So why are they treated the strider differently from the golem? Shouldn’t they both be treated the same? Take the water walking from the strider. Fine. Then take the golem’s special ability away from it too.

Either make all special abilities require a piece of equipment, or treat all mounts that currently already have special abilities work the same way the golem is planned to work.

I still use my tradeskills I have leveled through all the expansions, my Skyguard Drape , recipes/pets/mounts I had to farm or rep grind for, I still use goblin gliders, I use hexweave bags on many of my fresh alts, heirlooms that I bought or farmed over the expansions, I use my battle standard and Cloak of Coordination, I use my Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth, and many people use their Grand Expedition Yak.

So your point fails short considering there are many things in the game from long past expansions that people STILL use and find useful.

We expect ourselves to out grow our gear each expansion. Heck, we do throughout our leveling, and going from leveling to end game. That is expected. Mounts are not the same, as they are meant to be something we use throughout our journeys to far off lands. More so since they made flying mounts able to be used as ground mounts a few xpacks back.

My major issue is that Blizzard clearly has mechanics in place for the sky golem. A mechanic that they could use for the striders. Yet, they are choosing not to, and get the backlash and dig themselves even deeper into the poor PR that’s been happening this expansion.
