Last night the account in question was suspended for 7 days and the email mentioned it was due to abusive chat. In the 20 years that I’ve been playing I’ve never even been muted, so I was confused on the suspension, as well as the nature of the reason for it. I will admit, in the mature guild that I’m in for SoD we cuss occasionally but absolutely no slurs, or anything hostile/toxic or anything that’s directed to one individual, that goes for guild chat as well as anyone I talk with.
The appeal was given a generic response, which I understand to an extent, but I’m hoping for clarification or a reversal, or honestly even just a week long mute instead of a suspension. If a mute is still justified, I’d love to know what the reasoning was in the first place so that I can avoid making the same error in the future, otherwise I’ll probably just avoid chatting at all in general to avoid my 15+ year account from being straight up banned.
I’m hoping this is fine to post here in an attempt to receive a more personalized response/review, and I appreciate your time if you do take a second look at it. I’ve been having an absolute blast with SoD and I’m quite sad that I won’t be able to binge it over the weekend lmao.
Look i get you wanred a better apeal but you cant bypass it by posting here your ticket will be answered by a real person when it comes up.
Now abusive chat can be anything from masked language racial slurs derogatory names from any interacrion im sure vrak can shed some light. Guild chat usualy isnt factored into this.
I agree, and I guess just felt laxed in the guild environment that I found myself in. I had mistakenly always believed that general profanity wasn’t necessarily actionable (Obviously it is though when directed at someone, or threatening them etc.) but would always try to avoid it in general. If this is the reason for the actions upon the account, I’ll accept that and refrain in the future but I’m still advocating for a mute instead of a suspension as it seems rather heavy for a first time offense. (A full reversal would be great too )
Before posting here I did some research and found GMs mentioning that posting here can provide clarification etc. on the suspension, otherwise I agree and wouldn’t have posted this.
Just remember that this a pg-13 game, so there will be kids around. Now there are tools that parents can use to help prevent there kids from seeing that material, it doesn’t give us the right to use vulgar language of any kind. With that said if your guild allows that kind of chat, that is there choice. Just be careful of what goes into public chat.
Just to touch on this - it doesn’t have to be directed at anyone. They don’t look at context. Profanity has never been allowed under any circumstance since the game started up, but they were a lot more lax about nailing people for it in the past. They’ve ramped it up finally and they’re trying to correct mistaken behavior that has too long run rampant.
Good luck in your appeals, and hopefully you’ll get the clarification you’re looking for.
Yes, sometimes they can. You made it very clear in your first post that you are not trying to bypass the appeals system, you are just asking for a bit of clarity on your infraction.
Blizzard used to send you the infraction text, or enough near it to remind you of what happened. That is either broken right now or they discontinued it. So the intent has always been to give players some context to their penalty. That is the best way to educate players and reduce future infractions.
Profanity, of any kind, and masked profanity is not allowed in Blizzard games. Never has been. It has to be reported though before a GM takes action. Chat within a Guild is considered “at will” and unless it is REALLY bad, they don’t usually action that.
The penalty ladder is currently 1 week Silence (mute) for a first offense. A week suspension for a second. It goes up from there. My guess is that you had a 1 day silence (earlier first penalty) somewhere between now and 2016 when the Silence system started. That would explain a week suspension.
A blue may be able to give you the info you seek if they are handy Best of luck and be nice in public chats/groups! Say it out loud, don’t let your fingers type it.
Well… clarification on what you said might be a little challenging… let’s see how to go about this…
No, you didn’t exactly use profanity, though you used an acronym that does contain it, something that is used fairly often which means To a great extent or degree; very.
I think the main issue was the discussion of sexual acts, along with the acronym, a conversation that happened in Looking for Group.
As for the penalty, it looks like you had a silence back in 2019, so the next penalty usually escalates to a suspension from there.
I also see a few days ago some inappropriate language, again in LFG. Unless you are talking about a sporting goods store, and even then, it’s a good idea to avoid certain topics and body parts in public chat.
