And the sad reality of the matter? There’s still an unacceptable amount of homophobia, racism, transphobia etc on these forums and in the game.

That doesn’t make any sense. If everyone who supported LGBT+ issues stopped talking, that doesn’t stop hate groups from congregating and spreading their own hate. Every heard of an incel chatroom? 
Children are born without hate, and are taught it. Likewise children can be taught respect, acceptance.

Yes and WHO is going to teach them said things? If people pay no mind to such things and do not spread them, who will pass on said torches? Flames and such things as torches do not exist in a vacuum, cannot exist in a vacuum, so why do you expose them to fuel and air which in this metaphor is the children and impressionable minds? By bringing awareness to bigotry you only introduce it to said minds which do not know what it is.
