Below is a screenshot step-by-step of the choices one of my characters made not long ago to choose a timeline from Chromie. My character chose the Classic/Cataclysm timeline, but you can choose any you need.
Also, here is a breakdown of what the dialogue options for the timelines mean:
- I want to explore Azeroth = Classic/Cataclysm timeline
- I want to explore another planet = Burning Crusade timeline
- I want to fight an army of evil undead = Wrath of the Lich King timeline
- I want a contemplative adventure = Mists of Pandaria timeline
- I want to command my own garrison = Warlords of Draenor timeline
- I want to be the coolest death knight on Azeroth! = Legion timeline
- I want to explore the afterlives = Shadowlands timeline
