Chromie won't let me timewalk! Please help!

Before I go any further, I must stress that I am a new player, so if I sound confused, that’s why. So anyway, a friend told me about heirloom items that level as you level, and since I was making a new character, he suggested I look for the vendor, an NPC on the roof of the gate in Orgrimmar, but when I went to check, they weren’t there. So I looked on the wiki and it said they move there after the Battle for Lorderon in Battle for Azeroth, so I figured that the reason must be because I was still timewalking in Draenor for that expansion’s questline. So I went to Chromie to turn it off, but the NPC still didn’t show up. Then, I went to Draenor to turn in my Garrison Missions real quick and noticed that all the maps now say they max at level 40 and all the quests are now low level for me, whereas before they all said 60. I figured I’d keep questing anyway, but when I went out to do a quest, I was one-shotting everything (I guess since I’m level 60 and everything is level 40). So I went back to Chromie to change it back, but I can’t figure out how to timewalk again (a friend did it for me last time when we started Draenor, since I was a new player, about a month or so ago). All Chromie says now is they need help with Dragonflight stuff, but I don’t own the expansion yet cause I can’t afford it. So now I’m confused. Why can’t I timewalk? And why is Chromie telling me to go start a quest for an expansion I don’t even own? Did I just royally screw up my game? How do I change Draenor back to level 60 again and make it challenging/fun? I really don’t want to breeze through the whole thing, especially since I’m only on the second continent. That would be so boring. How do I fix this? (Also, on a side note, why didn’t the heirloom NPC show up?) Thanks for any help.

Below is a screenshot step-by-step of the choices one of my characters made not long ago to choose a timeline from Chromie. My character chose the Classic/Cataclysm timeline, but you can choose any you need.

Also, here is a breakdown of what the dialogue options for the timelines mean:

  • I want to explore Azeroth = Classic/Cataclysm timeline
  • I want to explore another planet = Burning Crusade timeline
  • I want to fight an army of evil undead = Wrath of the Lich King timeline
  • I want a contemplative adventure = Mists of Pandaria timeline
  • I want to command my own garrison = Warlords of Draenor timeline
  • I want to be the coolest death knight on Azeroth! = Legion timeline
  • I want to explore the afterlives = Shadowlands timeline

Also, wanted to mention this part. If you are just looking for heirlooms, go to Undercity (if Horde) or Ironforge (if Alliance) to visit the vendors.

The portal to Undercity is on top of the zeppelin tower by the flightmaster.

because:

you can’t.

you can start another character and put it into Chromie time, but if you don’t want to level past a certain point, you’ll want to go visit the experience eliminator and lock your experience (at some point before level 60)

for alliance:

You can enter Chromie Timewalking at level 60. The ability to do so was added in patch 10.1.5.

  • CHROMIE TIME
    • Chromie will now teach you what Chromie Time is, suggest timelines to choose, and share the opening cinematics.
    • The maximum level in Chromie Time is now 61 (was level 60).
    • Chromie Time expansion restrictions have been removed.

The screenshots I posted in earlier reply show my level 60 Paladin doing Chromie Timewalking.

you can’t lock experience once you’ve hit 60, and they don’t have Dragonflight.

Experience gains cannot be disabled for:

  • Characters on WoW Classic realms
  • Characters at level 60 or above

or if their friend has a character in the WoD level range, they could try party-sync

New players would be locked to Battle for Azeroth zones until completed levelling their before they can level on alts in other zones through Chromie Time.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This worked! I figured it out! So happy I don’t have to abandon my level 60 Priest and restart the Draenor campaign with another character. I was really afraid this was some sort of tactic by Blizzard to bully people into buying the newest expansion. Like, “Wanna keep getting good gold from quests? Buy the newest expansion.” The main reason I was annoyed was cause I didn’t want the whole Draenor campaign to suddenly be a cakewalk, but also because I’ve accrued my 4k or so gold purely from questing in Draenor. If it reset to level 40 quests, then it would feel like waste of time, since I wouldn’t be getting anything good from the quests. I wouldn’t want to suddenly have to switch to some other story just so I can maintain my gold accruement (a friend suggested just doing easy raids/dungeons for gold, but that is boring). Thanks again for the help Kyzera! You’re awesome!!!
