The zones were great, all i remember from the Cata zones complaints were the alliance players mad they lost multiple areas when they had an area advantage and the changes made it even.
I’ve been leveling all my alts in the Cata zones, these zones are absolutely wonderful. Ashenvale , 1k needles, silverpine forest, western plaguelands.

For context. When you say amazing zones. You talking the story or the overall setting / design of said zone?
That was like 5 seconds of content.
I don’t remember the complaints being about the quests themselves, but the changing of the zones. Day Deathwing Came? Gnomergedon? Welcome to the Machine? The Gnome and Goblin war in 1k Needles?
All great.
People were mad about the pandas but the people that stayed got to enjoy the great expansion we ever had.
As for WoD the zones weren’t the fault of that expansion it was the garrisons and end game systems.
A mid writer would be an improvement . . .

Its not really a war in that zone. They’re partying and then we gotta deal with pirates for most of it. Then Grimtotem stuff.
They had a bar fight on the ship. It was hilarious.
P.s. the Thrall wedding was hilarious too because we got to make fun of Jaina always being the bride’s maid but never the bride.

Tovi i remember so many people happy about the max level version of classic dungeons as well.
I’m the biggest cata hater, easily #3 for worst expansion but the expansion did have some very solid dubs.
Playable goblins, great raids, warcraft “feeling” zones.
I Cata is one of my favorite xpacs 
Worst for me is WoD, SL and DF.
I still have a soft spot for the worgen starting zone ngl. The goblin one annoys me so much with how Thrall just lets Gallywix continue leading. But the mood of the worgen zone? See that was nice.
But I live in a desert so I just vibe with places that have a lot less sunshine and more rain in video games lol
No shot there were 12m people playing in WoD. I still think that 11 mil metric was fake to this day.
WoD had 10mil people at the beginning, not for the entire xpac.
wod had a big spike in players but 12m was in cata and mop
Worst for me is SL>WoD>Cata.
Best is MoP>Wotlk>dragonflight
While i rag on DF, i love dragon riding, the talent trees are the best warcraft ever had and the raids have been very entertaining.
My con for dragonflight is the narrative is just so unbelievable terrible.
This is where my tinfoil hat fits snugly, but the reason I find those numbers dubious is the original tallying of them. Is it players or is it accounts created? Box sales to individual players with intent to play or resale?
I will just start a new Worgen to play it again, starting zones are so fun.
Literally have a level 1 Worgen rogue chilling too play it again this weekend.
Everybody here claiming Metzen was responsible for the questing back in the day.
And here I thought that was Chilton or Afrasiabi.
