Choosing Who you play with is NOT Gatekeeping

In other words, having RDF does not gatekeep you from making your own group correct? If you cannot make a group while RDF is in game, without using RDF, then that is your problem, correct?

Yes it is, but then players who didn’t get a chance to get fully geared because they couldn’t run old content, now cannot run new content. Maybe if TBC lasted 2 years like it originally did, there wouldn’t be as many people feeling left behind, but unfortunately the meta of the community speedran through everything and ran out of content fast so they had to push things.

One of the reasons there are so many people complaining of being gatekept is because of the speedrunners pushing the pace of the game so that normal gamers have to keep up, turning then into speedrunnders, and so on and so forth.

I never ‘ran’ through dungeons but everyone is starting to do it, so I have to run now too. I don’t even get a chance to drink sometimes I have to pop a mana potion instead.

That may be part of it, the other part is I’m so tired of arguing with selfish people who only care about themselves and not the health of the community. When you have a group of players saying something is wrong and another group saying ‘nope doesn’t affect me, everything is fine’ it gets very tiresome to argue against.

nothing can gatekeep any1 from making a group

yes it would be BUT this situation cannot happen.

this is simply not true as a vast majority of groups dont care 1 bit assumming youre talkign about leveling dungeons (myself included, ill bring anything)

this doesnt affect you for the simple reason that speedrunners dont pug

that is ok consumables are meant to be consumed

then dont argue?

point is people like playing this game with like-minded people, therefore this gatekeeping is fine because it just lets you know the expectations of the group you’re joining.

Well then, having RDF in game wont be so bad then will it? It’s not keeping you from experiencing the game the same way you would without it right?

If people didn’t care about gear and didn’t gatekeep, this thread wouldn’t exist along with other threads talking about being gatekept.

I actually did join a UK as a lvl 68 (the level you are allowed to queue for the dungeon btw) and got immediately kicked. The dungeon is designed for lvl 68-70 so there shouldn’t be any reason why I got kicked unless of course, I was gatekept by speedrunners or meta players.

Speedrunners do affect the game for everyone, like I said, if people didn’t clear TBC content so fast the pace of the game would’ve been slower and TBC would’ve lasted 2 years instead of 1 like it did originally.

Yeah I guess it’s okay to turn normal dungeons into a speedrun (sarcasm). I feel like I’m running mythic+ at times. Also, what about players who can’t afford to pop a mana potion every single minute? I can sure but lots of new players wont be able to afford it they have other gold sinks to attend to.

All of that is keeping new players/alts from actually playing the game. (like getting kicked from UK as 68 even though it says it’s for lvl 68+ etc…)

The whole point of arguing is getting the attention of Blizz so they change things, kinda how they did with the loot bags dropping ridiculous amounts of alchemy crafts which ruined the alchemy market.

Of course, people who weren’t negatively impacted just didn’t care and acted as if rendering 1/3 of the profession useless is okay (with flasks dropping in heroics it’s only a matter of time before 1/2 if not more of alchemy is useless)

You can play the game however you want but if your gameplay is negatively impacting the gameplay of others they will complain. If their complaints are not met they will leave. Eventually you will be the one who complains “where is everyone? why did everyone leave?”

Gatekeeping is okay for raids and arenas - content that is actually designed to be a challenge and requires more than just pressing W on your keyboard to keep up with the group but for normal dungeons? Lol… says a lot about some people.

you can’t go back in time man. we’ve progressed as a playerbase past the “take it slow” part. sure, a ton of people take it slow and love it and that’s fine, but people racing are also having fun man.

We will never go back to what we experienced the first time around with wrath. Ever.

So we have established that the majority of the playerbase want to go fast?

Well then, why isn’t RDF in the game, you get to form and run dungeons way faster than LFG.

I don’t know what the majority playerbase likes, but I do know that people also have fun racing the same way that people take it slow. RDF just effects levels 1-70 really.

i dont rly care for or against RDF, it doesn’t really matter to me to be honest, I’ve found groups very easily and my character was a boosted character. if i can get into groups as a boosty with 0 connections I’m sure anyone in here can

Yo, how many players can’t run new content? Is it more than 5? If so, they can make their own group. Their refusal to do so doesn’t mean anyone is gatekeeping them.

Also, you’re confusing gatekeeping with elitism.

For sure man, I get it.

Current content really doesn’t need RDF there are plenty of people running it.

Older content definitely needs it. Eventually Wrath will need it to prob around P5? Idk only time will tell.

With the amount of people complaining about gatekeeping on the forums, they could band together and make a guild and have infinite runs extremely casually

Players who aren’t brutal geared can’t run new content as easily as fully brutal can.

I’ve experienced it myself where my lock is full brutal but my alt isn’t. My lock gets easy invites and never got kicked, my alt doesn’t get many invites and gets kicked.

The elitism is what’s causing gatekeeping however.

Would be nice, unfortunately we aren’t on the same server so there’s that

It’s not gatekeeping, though. You can find other similarly geared players.

Have you even once got on your alt and advertised for a boostie, low gear score run? Why are you just waiting for invites? You can’t be kicked if you’re the group leader as well.

Gatekeeping: the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something.

Your specific access to someone else’s group is restricted, but you are still allowed to do the content. Your general access to the dungeon is not compromised by being declined. What you are discussing is elitism.

now youre just being disingenuous.

people do gatekeep for alot of different reason i said it in this conversation we just had. This thread exist not because of gatekeepers but because of players who feel victimised by it and come cry here on the forums instead of stepping up their game. RDF would be bad because it would reward low effort thus making the experience more detrimental for everyone.

you were getting gatekept. Not by speedrunners (as those ppl dont pug) by meta players probably not either, the players simply had their expectations set to lvl 70+

15 months but i agree with you on this

but it IS okay as some will want to go hard on launch, even if they didnt kick you, you wouldnt enjoy the experience as you would have to use mana potions and apparently you dont like doing that

i dont know wtf mythic + is

nobody can afford to pop mana potions every single minute as the cooldown is 2 minutes

the rest of your post can be summed up by FIND YOURELF SOME PPL WHO SHARE THE SAME MINDSET AS YOU AND PLAY WITH THEM

The keyword there is ‘limiting’ which it is as I just said, I don’t have to start my own groups as a brutal lock. I get easy invites no worries, which is not happening on my alt and I’m forced to start my own groups.

I almost always have to start my own groups on my alt, and you know what happens when I invite someone who’s ‘elite’? They leave.

Therefore it is gatekeeping and it is limiting gameplay.

No, the key word is general. You are limited from their group, but not from general access to all groups or your own.

But taking away a system that would allow players the ability to chose the way they want to play because you do not want it, is GATEKEEPING.

but this isnt a thing

In a specific, not general, sense, hence not gatekeeping lol. You clearly don’t know what words mean. Since I need to play dictionary for you:

General: affecting or concerning all or most people, places, or things; widespread.

Edit: I misread, didn’t realize you were implying I advocated against RDF.

I am pro RDF lol. I will continue to kick scrubs, because I am a tank and most random dps would rather accomodate a vote kick of a stranger than sit in queue waiting for a tank again. I will also get instant queues.

the entitlement some people have is unbelievable

i do not have to carry you through a dungeon
