China's hacking WoW accounts

One sure way to NOT get hacked is use Protonmail and ONLY use it for your battle.net account, never use it for sending or use it to give to other websites, only wow, you will never get hacked.

Old news. Obvious Stereotype…

Stereotypes exist because there’s enough of a trend for it to become a stereotypical association.

Stereotypes generally aren’t entirely without their merit, good or bad. Do you think the stereotype about Chinese goldsellers hacking accounts, liquidating the gear, advertising RMT sites, and stealing the gold came out of thin air? No, it was enough of a pattern it got associated with them.

This isn’t saying all Chinese are hackers, but pointing out a very clear pattern and trend. Similar to Ragnaros players. It wasn’t just decided we’d view Ragnaros and Azralon as servers that are full of bad players. We noticed a lot of bad players who refuse to obey mechanics, or who do dumb things in m+ keys, sperg out then rage quit the group over one wipe usually came from those 2 servers.

The only way you’d get hack is because you don’t have an authenticator. Just that they’ve hacked you means they have your login and password. Either you went to a site or have a keylogger. Seriously wow should be the least of your concerns.

So you have a bunch of friends who download sketchy programs from unknown sources and don’t take the most basic steps to secure their accounts?

(1) Welcome to an old thing.

(2) It’s a stretch to say the word “government” or “china” here in like an organized way. Yes it is from that part of the world but I think the best you can say is “civic” because it is true that public opinion about the US is bad and getting worse. And the same goes for anything not-china, they are on the path to xenophobia. So messing with anything that originates outside of china is almost considered patriotic activity.

(3) This is literally why tokens exist, they didn’t want to or couldn’t think of a good way to put in serious game controls so they just gave up. They threw gold at people in wod and also introduced tokens. Account theft was insane in the past, insane. So common.

(4) This isn’t just wow. When ESO came out the clients and servers were already pre-hacked with back doors and all sorts of other things. Many many things. As the company removed some hacks they just moved on to other ones they had saved up. Boy that release was a mess. By comparison, historically, warcraft has done done a lot better combating this. But … it’s a detached corp now, so the motivation just isn’t there anymore. It only needs to be somewhat hack-proof, just enough spent on security so that people keep playing, no more.

  1. so watch your back ingame, browsing, in email, and so on

Authenticators exist. Everyone uses them. You wanted to troll about China for reasons.

Thank you for the information, :+1:

Do not underestimate them.

This is a warning! Be prepared for big, bad Reds for they are coming!

it sucks but hacks are not something that happen.
Hacked accounts are the result of the following:

  1. Weak passwords/repeated passwords
  2. Going to suspicious sites
  3. unintentionally downloading malware/keylogs

I mean they punished gamers for backing Hong Kong , we all know about the Labor Camps situation in China, so it don’t surprise me what American Companies will allow/ put up with for money. Its all about the duckies screw the morality of things.

This has been going on for years. China has businesses centered around hacking accounts, farming gold, and selling it on multiple game platforms.
