China's hacking WoW accounts

This is not a troll post.

Almost everyone of my friends either has or knows someone who has been hacked in the past 3 months or so. All the times it seemed to originate from China. The evidence it was China is the names of characters interacting with the accounts while they were hacked.

Anyways, it’s obvious if you download any Chinese owned apps they are pulling all your passwords and logins. I think a big effort is being done to hack WoW accounts.

I’m not sure why, maybe as a demoralizing tactic against the public, or maybe just to make money.

We need Blizzard to take a stand because I don’t want Chinese government people stealing my account. Especially now if that one app is banned they’re going to become even more aggressive I think. Next thing you know the Alliance and Horde will be dissolved and become the people’s gulag of Azeroth.

Turn on two-factor authentication.

Then they can’t get into your account even if they do steal your password.

I politely disagree.

Just because I made a joke at the end doesn’t mean it’s a troll post. This is a serious threat.

Again, I politely disagree.

While I accept and believe whole heartedly that there are individuals and groups of such trying to hack accounts, I do not take seriously any theory that it is part of a grand conspiracy by the Chinese government to undermine America. It’s simply not plausible.

They hack accounts to steal gold and sell it, they also use your account to advertise until the password gets recovered.

That’s great if you disagree, idc. It’s still not a troll post though. That’s the only point I’m making, which you for some reason avoided.

As much as I tend to see China (or any comunist/socialist/facist/n azist) country with suspicious, I believe this time (and I don’t believe I am going to say that) they may be innocent…

The real question is what are you doing to prevent this? Why do you require something to be done for you, instead of taking matters into your own hands?? Please become a little more self sufficient, and make sure that you you the proper anti malware protection.

This is news?
Chinese have been hacking MMO’s since MMO’s 1st started and making money off said hacked accounts

Propaganda is a powerful thing. Good propaganda can make normal people do some pretty senseless things.

I actually added an authenticator a few days ago specifically because I got an email report about a new login location and my password was mysteriously changed. It was lucky that I was still online at the time to quickly recover it. Good to know if this is happening to others in the same time frame.

In any case, what others have said so far is correct; it’s technically the players’ responsibility to protect their own accounts unless we get any word of a potential data leak.

What makes it a troll post is that you worded it in such a way as to inflame tensions. Your addition of blaming the Chinese government as part of a grand conspiracy to undermine America is what makes it a troll post.

If you had simply warned people about securing their accounts and being careful about insecure apps it would have been different.

I doubt you will see that though as this seems to be more of an anti-China post than a secure your account post.

There’s this one gold farmer that always comes back on a different hacked account no matter how many times I report him. Blizzard needs to hardware ban.
