PMRC's 'Filthy 15': Where Are They Now?
Thirty years after the Parents Music Resource Center made a list of the "Filthy 15" most objectionable songs of the time, Rolling Stone looks back.

Nobody implied that. A lot of you assume theyâre going to hire an unqualified person that checks a diversity bubble over a more qualified employee. Thatâs not the case at all.
All you guys are doing is telling the world that you think âstraight white manâ is going to be more qualified and turned out of a job.
Wouldnât take any of you very long to learn how the hiring process works.
Also Mormons are some of the biggest sex addicts around, You forget they were why polygamistsâ lived in Utah.
Whatever the footloose people
Fun fact: movies tried to tell us it was churches that were banning our records back then but if you actually paid attention it was Al Gore and his wife that made the PMRC and Filthy 15 and pushed for record labeling.

Yeah im certainly not saying that people of colour donât have it bad. The world can be an awful place and itâs just a fact that there are far more people prejudiced against black people and women than there are white men.
Iâm not looking for help either.
I just wish we lived in a world where people didnât think tearing white men down is a good thing, and instead tried raising people up to the same place.
And it does hurt when Iâm told that I only feel that way because Iâm privileged. If the person saying it does not know me or my life, or my experiences, but decides to tell me Iâm wrong and why I feel how I feel⌠yeah itâs scummy.
As for some of the comments on here⌠theyâre crazy.
The person got their job to make the workplace that people other than straight white men want to work. And thatâs a good thing.
There is legal action for a reason after all.
Completely dismissing her for being black and female is really gross.
We have no reason to think sheâs going to be bad for the role.
We just have to wait and see on that.
So I am not dismissing you, nor am I saying you are upset because you are not privileged any more.
Even if you arenât saying that, people do, and I donât think they understand that theyâre creating an image of a zero-sum even if they want to believe that a zero-sum doesnât exist. The next thing they inevitably say is âwell youâve had your chanceâ and my response is âI may have, but what about the one tomorrow? Five years from now? Ten? Twenty? Have they had their chance?â Typically, there is no answer, just a lot of bluster.
If representation is to matter, it has to matter for everyone.
just said more diverse people will be hired
The question is, what does âmore diverseâ mean?
You forget they were why polygamistsâ lived in Utah
Depends on which religion you believe. If you believe the Mormons it was to take care of the wives of their brethren than were killed in cold blood by the other religions around them. Here is an interesting read on how plural marriage actually was good in that it helped start womenâs activism (if you believe in equal rights)
Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich says that for Mormon women living in 19th century Utah, "plural marriages" were empowering in complicated ways.
Like all of history the truth is only told from the side of the victors and the Mormons were driven from every home they had till Utah.
I take a couple hour nap and people already found their new thing to be mad about.
No doubt that people are saying that this is woke, sjw ect.

I would get it if people were saying the role was.
But actually more people seem to be annoyed she is a black woman.
All the greatest hits

The company needs it for PR. Its a shame our sub fees have to be used for this, something that could have been a non issue simply by not being sexist and racist to staff, but here we are. Im not going to pretend i understand what qualifications make a good people officer but ill give her the benefit of assuming shes got whatever that is. Hopefully she makes it fair for everyone, but i have feeling one demographic will be left out to dry.
As long as they are only being inclusive in their hiring practices and those practices are not exclusionary, (and by this I mean actively refusing work or denying quality candidates work opportunities) simply because the candidate in question was not born with the parameters that meet some desired quota; I have no issue with this.
If they are refusing quality candidates however on the basis of skin-color, sexual orientation etc. I think any fair minded person should have a very big issue with that. Because thatâs racism, and that can never be tolerated.

Indeed, which is why they needed to hire someone like this.
âŚand anyone born in the USA, regardless of ethnicity is just an American.
nyone born in the USA, regardless of ethnicity is just an American.
You are not wrong but this is a nation of immigrants and the drive to identify by the home nation is strong. This is why we have so many fantastic cultural activities from all over the world. We, as a nation, are stronger for our diversity of cultures and backgrounds - and these days people celebrate that. It is CORE to American values that we are home to immigrants and stronger for it.
When my great grandparents immigrated they refused to teach their children their language for fear they would be discriminated against. I canât speak Gaelic or Danish as a result - only a few words were left.
Thankfully that is not the case anymore. We are all Americans, but it is ok to now also celebrate your roots.
This is one of the best things about America - we accept all the cultures and backgrounds and it just enriches our society.
Honestly I am glad the xenophobic atmosphere my great grandparents faced that made them hide their names, language, etc is gone.
Fathers side of the family are Irish migrants. Mothers side of the family are Slavic migrants. Genealogy is something I think everyone should participate in at least once in their life.
Iâm sure she was hired for her skills and deserves the position.
anything to stop the union
While yes they are trying to stop a unionization, this is more a insurance move as stated earlier in the thread.

YES! I am so so so sad we lost so much of it due to the anti immigrant policies and atmosphere.
My dad has been doing a lot of genealogical research the past few years. It only makes us wish we had the internet and resources before our elders passed. I am old enough to have met my immigrant great grandparents - and have the steamer trunks with the ship labels in my house.
