Cheated by new death knight level squish

I thought a level 55 would be converted to level 23, so I made several new death knights yesterday night, but today they’re all level 8, which is basically level 1 for dk’s. I thought if I had the character in my roster, then it would convert as expected. Why wasn’t it made clear that we had to go into the world in order for the level coversion to be made properly? This is very unfair because I really can’t stand leveling.

Not really, no. You tried to game the system and it didn’t work. And now you’re upset and complaining about it? Really?

How is this gaming the system? If I stepped into the world and did one quest, I would be level 23 wouldn’t I? They should’ve made that clear then I would’ve stepped into the world and did one quest.

we knew about this for months, if you wanted to skip a bunch of levels you shoulda done it right. you post this in the support forums like you want them to what… skip 2hours of questing or less? really?

Where was it written anywhere that you need to go into the world for this to work? All it says is that levels will be squished to specific levels, i.e. 55 becomes 23. I will put in a ticket to see if something can be done.

Counterpoint - where was it written that you could create a new death knight, wait until 9.0 to log in, and you would somehow be able to skip the first 15 levels?

Because it’s level 55. Here’s the issue. If I enter the world and do one quest, then log out I would be level 23. How does that make any sense? When I created the toon in BFA, it really existed, I just didn’t do anything with it, so it should be converted as if it’s an existing toon. Instead it’s treating it as if I created the toon after the prepatch.

It’s not a cheat. Why wouldn’t you have at least logged in to cement your level? It’s been pretty clear that yes, you could create a new DK or DH before pre-patch and the higher level would have been a boon to you and everything after the pre-patch drop would be the lower squished levels. It wouldn’t have taken you any time at all to log in, complete that one quest standing there at the Lich King and this wouldn’t even be an issue. Your lack of foresight is not Blizzard’s fault.

If no one else does it before I can get around to it I’m pretty sure it’s been documented in patch notes with clarifications in regards to how it was supposed to work but it’s after 5am here and I’m ready to crash.

I know it’s too late, but what you should have done is level the DKs to 60 to get them out of the starter zone. Then they would have been squished to a higher level. But that in the past now. Good Luck!

Haven’t been able play yet, but I cannot imagine getting the equivalent levels being difficult to obtain or just negligible.

I am sorry for the confusion, Maddof. We released information on the Death Knight and Demon Hunters new starting experience earlier this year. I believe in April.

Specifically:

For Veteran Players

If you’re a veteran player or you’ve leveled a character before, you can choose to opt out of the starting experience and begin instead at level 1 in the starting area for your race. Upon reaching level 10, you can either continue into Battle for Azeroth or speak with Chromie to choose the expansion that you’d like to continue leveling in before you enter Shadowlands at level 50. Players with Allied race characters will begin at level 10. Non-Allied race Death Knights and Demon Hunters will automatically begin at level 8 and play through their own starting experience before moving on around level 10.

The character doesn’t exist until it’s logged in.

The character is still treated like a new character though, as it hasn’t left the starting area yet. Similar to how it is viewed if you delete the character at that level, it doesn’t last permanently like a level 55. Again, sorry for the confusion.

OK. Oh well.

Get a lawyer and have him send a letter to Blizzard cause even wowhead was saying make a DH and DK before prepatch so you dont have to lvl up from lvl 8.

I assume you are joking, Scald? As that seems like a fairly silly, expensive and entirely ineffective suggestion.

Just to be clear though, while Wowhead often has excellent game related information, it isn’t the source for official information.
