Charged twice on my bank for a 3 month sub, dates on my payments differ

I paid for a 3 month sub the 18th of July, the email came through, but then I was charged again on the 20th. 2 payments appear on my bank statements, but blizzard only recognizes one.

I called my bank to look into it. I’m extremely terrified about my account getting flagged and I truly just wish to solve the issue, I’ve never had this problem before.

EDIT: It was a bank issue! after 15 days and a LOT of back and forth, apparently the payment took so long to process due to a problem on the bank’s end.

I’m south american so I’m used to things taking longer than usual, but this was way out of the ordinary and WoW is a very special treat for me so I was very stressed lol. Thank you everyone who took the time to help!

The first question that comes to mind is, are you sure you didn’t have payment information registered for two different accounts?

Do you have any other Battle.net account or game license subscription that would be using the same card details?

Are either of the payments showing as “pending” or “awaiting authorisation”?

No, I only use this card on this account.

You should be able to log into your BNET account and see your transaction history, as well as what accounts you have. I would suspect 2 accounts, but would confirm you actually were charged 2x. You should also be able to confirm on your accounts how far in the future you are paid for. If you on accident purchased 2 3 month subscriptions which were both applied to the same bnet account, you can either choose to leave them, or could choose to refund one.

If you only see one charge on your account however, reach out to Blizzard concerning the billing issue, and have them look into it, advising that the only valid account that should have charged for that CC was the account you are contacting them from. Then wait for their response.

Nope, it shows as “complete” on my transaction history.

Do you see 1 or 2 subscription charges on your transaction history and if so does it match one of the two charges based on the date?

Thank you very much. I’ll start a ticket immediately, but I checked on my other account and it has no charge, no game time, nor any debit card info at all. On the account on which I play, I’m only seeing one charge for one 3-month sub.

I apologize if i sound desperate, I got very scared and contacted my bank and now I’m worried about being flagged as a scammer.

I’m only seeing one on the Battlenet you are posting under.

So, the two possibilities already given are the most likely.

This is a pending/paid situation and referring to the same charge, or you actually have another license - not on this Battlenet.

You shouldn’t need to worry about your account getting flagged, there is nothing wrong with a card paying for multiple subscriptions. Now if you only have the one subscription, and two were actually paid, then you need to work with Blizzard to figure this out. Especially if a subscription was paid for on an account that wasn’t yours. Whatever you do, don’t rush into a chargeback, work with Blizzard first, see if you can figure out what happened, and if possible let them deal with it.

Wait to hear back from your bank, hopefully they can clear it all up and you won’t even need to talk to Blizzard, and if they get back to you that there were two charges actually made and its not a pending/paid situation, open a ticket for Blizzard to investigate, make sure they know which account is the only account which should be authorized on that card, and provide tracking/date/amounts from your bank for the charges in question.

If someone has used their card without them knowing, then that is something they should be more contacting a bank about, and not Blizzard.

Thank you so so much for your response.

I’ve checked and there is no other license I paid for - my other account has no game time, no associated debit cards and the only charge I can see on it is buying overwatch on 2017.

I will open a ticket just in case to see what other actions are available to me.

I would actually contact your bank, and not Blizzard. As Orlyia said, there is 1 of 2 outcomes to this:

Outcome 1:

This is usually common thing to see, where banks will show on the statement 2 of the same charges, usually within a few days, this would disappear and eventually only show the one.

Outcome 2:

And given that you have said that you have made no other purchases on your other account since 2017, another likely scenario is that someone also could’ve gotten ahold of your card details. Maybe someone you know, it maybe someone you do not know. But it isn’t uncommon for stolen card details to be used on online purchases, but I think the more likely scenario is Outcome 1.

But as I said, it probably be best to speak to your bank about.

Oh agree, if the card was used for a different account, likely the bank would need to be engaged, and unfortunately it would likely mean a new CC then as well. However that starts going down a much more complicated path, and one that is difficult to untangle if it turns out there is a logical reason for the charges and if they are in anyway legitimate. You would also need to be really careful to make sure you only disputed the bad charges as well.

OP is just exploring options for answers. Not sure if they can, but Blizzard might be able to possibly identify the other account.

Thank you everyone for your time and help. I initiated a ticket to look into it, and already began to work with my bank.

Apparently, I was charged the day on which I bought the 3 month sub (July 18th) and then recharged on the day my sub was to renew (July 20th). I sent a ticket on the issue to Blizz.

As well, I sent a ticket to the debit card company to see if this was an issue client side to see which payment came through, or perhaps a duplicated payment.

Again, thanks everyone for the help and patience. I will update the post if any news come in. Thank you!

Just wish to say; hope it works out and your bank can explain what happened. Good luck.
