I have reserved a character name on a new server with a level one character. Is the correct way to claim the reserved name:

  1. purchase and make the transfer of the old character and then
  2. delete the level new character and finally
  3. log into the transferred character and make the name change?

Yes. If the name is taken on the destination realm your transferring character will be prompted to change it’s name. If you clear that naming conflict by deleting the existing character, you should be able to select that name when you log into the transferred character.

Keep in mind, if the character holding the name is level 30+ on a different Battle.net account, it will be placed on a reserved list for 30 days. Only that Battle.net account will be able to use it during that time.
