I had a few toons on Fairbanks classic, somehow somewhere they were moved from classic to cataclysm and I’m not happy, I come back to classic to play and I went horde, I chose the wrong server so I decided to go bank to alliance and these toons aren’t on fairbanks where I leveled them, they are in cataclysm, how do I get them returned to fairbanks ? I mean, I never had a notice when they were moved to cataclym so I’m not too happy about this.
That sounded like they was on a progression server. If you didn’t choice to keep your toons on classic at the time, they’d be moved up through the expacks as time gone on. There isn’t a way to move your toons back to classic.

There was a period of time where you had to intentionally decide to keep a character on the Vanilla Classic Era servers. If not, they moved automatically to the next Progression stage of Classic. TBC, Wrath, and now Cata.
This post from 2022 does a pretty good job of explaining it to someone else who had similar questions.
There are two classic games, Vanilla Classic Era 1-60 and Classic TBC 1-70 and they are completely different and you cannot move between them.
You cannot clone characters anymore and anyone who hasn’t chosen Era or TBC for their character gets forced into TBC. You obviously chose Classic Era for your mage.
Yes. You cannot move from Era to TBC, cloning was turned off months ago.

If Cata does come out then they will be upgraded.
