I do not know if the search engine is bugged or if there’s a legitimate issue with the name I wish to use but after doing several searches via worldofwarcraft.com, google and WoWhead I have not been able to find the name anywhere. It’s not fair that something as simple as a name should be “Unavailable” when all the evidence points to it NOT being in use to begin with.

I’m on Wyrmrest Accord and the name I wish to use is neither a common name nor one that I’ve seen in use, ever. Some kind of answer beyond “that’s our policy” would be helpful. Anything but the rhetoric please.

Characters under level 10 will not show up on the armory.

Names can also be on the a reserved list by Blizzard, for possible names of NPC’s.

That should be removed if the character isn’t used after 30 days, not 2 expansions… And no one stays under level 10 without making a concerted effort to do so. >:(

You are welcome to make that suggestion, either by posting in the general forum or by using the in-game suggestion feature.

Had a bank alt for many years, still level 1. Very much an active character.

That’s not a definitive answer though. At least I’d like to get an answer if it’s genuinely a character or a system error.

Seeing how you haven’t told us what the name is, we cannot give a definite answer.

I’ve tried “Jalen”, “Javek”, “Jatheon” and “Jaleus” on WrA. I guess it can’t hurt since they’re supposedly taken. :frowning_face:

That is most likely the case. I did a search and their are 71 instances of the name Jalen in WoW. It also look like a popular name on the RP servers. Javek has 19 instances, and Jaleus has 0.

The caveat is the Armory is a poor tool to search for taken names, as it doesn’t show character under 10 or those that haven’t been logged into for a long while.

Here’s and idea, have you tried adding the name to your friends list? Make a toon Alliance side toon also and do the same.

So indeed all 4 names are Alliance characters… probably people who haven’t played in months or years… What a bogus system…

And you have no way of determining that. The characters may be inactive, but the account may not be.

Took me close to 4 years to score this name from another player. You gotta play the long game, and name camping is a LONG game.

I make great effort to stay under level 10 with toons I have made as name placeholders. They have quite literally never taken a step in the game. Just logged in to make sure the system registers the name as taken. Just because they beat you to it does not mean the names should be deleted.

That’s pretty scummy. I wouldn’t do that to fellow players. If you’re too much of a snake or apathetic jerk to log in and play your character(s) regularly they should be flagged for a name change after 30 days, 90 at most if you want to be gracious.

That it maybe, that it is what it is. Name calling isn’t gonna get the system changed and it’s kinda immature to boot.

Use the ingame suggestion tool if you wish to see a change.

Here is the thing. If I don’t return for Shadowlands and the next expansion, the names will be released.

I have names reserved for toons I will eventually level up. Eventually. But I don’t like leveling very much, so they just sit idle. Before I cancelled my sub I only had 4 max level toons. One of the regulars here has almost all 50 at max level. It is their jam, what they enjoy. My BG and raid progress is my jam and what I enjoy. Does not mean I should not have names I liked for particular toons because they were available though. Not scummy at all, though I am generally sorry you cannot get the names you would like at the moment.

I would say it’s pretty scummy to call a system bogus just because it’s not working in your favor, and then call other people names because of it.

As Nephe said, you are welcome to suggest a change to the system in the General forum or the in-game suggestion tool. But given the attachment players have to their names, I wouldn’t be expecting any change if I were you.
