Character model controversy

I’ve been playing for 5 years. If I knew it was against the rules and bannable, so did they.

And just like that, all the bans were overturned. Lol.

People have been banned for this before, don’t pretend otherwise just to make Blizzard look like the bad guy.

Modding your files has always been bannable, it’s there in writing. Blizzard is pretty good about addons, better than most other MMOs, but anything beyond that is a violation and has been for 14 years. It’s hasn’t been ‘tolerated’ for all this time, they’ve just actively done so in ban waves.

Sometimes rules need to be broken to see change. Any HS civics class teaches about civil disobedience. That being said with the amount of people being banned and even the amount of people saying they had no programs at all somthing is not right. Blizz needs to address the root cause as to why players would want to alter player models and why are so many being false flagged.

I have zero sympathy for this. People can complain and whine all they want, so here’s a lecture specifically for them.

When you play a game, when you make an account on said game, you’re 90% of the time forced to obey the TOS to continue and create your account. When you hit “I agree”, that’s your signature of signing a contract saying that you will abide the terms and play the game to the contract’s degree.

Reorganizing your UI, action bars, making RP profiles through 3rd party addons, is allowed. You are allowed to add in files pertaining to said add on, as long as none of the files specifically designed to run and support the game are manipulated.

Adding additional parts to a model’s frame or making them more visually appealing edits the game files that supports those models. No matter how harmless it is, it’s still against the TOS. It’s common sense. Not rocket science.

The downloader is likely warned by the mod creator that the use of this mod is risk and can hold consequences. They’re warned to use it at their own risk. Yes, Blizzard is ridiculously late on addressing this, but despite being late, the actions are justified and within their right. Whether the “victim” likes it or not.

Please tell me you’re not bringing civil disobedience into a debate about a private company banning players for altering files to have nude character models…

Like, why is it so hard for people to follow the rules or accept the punishments when they don’t? I don’t whine about getting the forum suspensions that I deservedly get, I just go on about my life. Why do people make decisions that violate the agreement between them and Blizzard and expect no consequences? I truly don’t understand.

As for the actual ban, I do believe 6 months is too harsh for something out of left field like this. I just don’t see why people are surprised they got banned for breaking the TOS.

Corporatists always shilling for the muh private company argument.

why not It works well enough people dont like somthing they have have only a few choices. They can break said rules since they are boring and if enough people do it the company might look at it and say well why are so many people doing this. Banning people hurts blizz bottom line. They ban too many people and the game will die.

It’s almost as if that’s the basis of our civilization

doesn’t mean you cant protest private companies, where do people get these ideas that you can’t ever disagree with what a business does? Just keep buying product drone.

absolutely pepper I think we should be able to post on forums why we are banned from game and forums and share blizz emails for transparency . Transparency will hold blizz acountable

If you want a bigger rack or more detail to your character, go on FF. Even with all those detail choices given to you, the company will more than likely react the same way Blizzard did. The user broke the TOS and purposely changed the game files.

What part of “game files cannot be changed” is hard to understand?

No real problem with that, you do you. Problem is that the private company can do their own thing as well. If they want to ban you for typing too many words, they can if they want.

The OP has zero clue what he is talking about because bans for armor modding have been happening as far back as TBC and they were almost always perma bans until around WoD where they started doing 6 months.

It seems blizzard figured out how to easily detect it. Hence the wave.

Who actually takes the time to read the ToS? It’s been a long-standing practice for businesses to jam pack so much into the ToS that you typically scroll down to the bottom and simply agree. It’s actually for that reason that there are new regulations dictating more transparent terms of service.

Ive been a supporter for player made model and texture submissions to blizz for weapon and armor for many years. I when to school for 3d animation and game texture development and all that jazz and I know there is alot of un-tapped talent that is wiling and able to contribute to a game they love. They dont even really ever want or need compensation most of the time. Its done out of passion. Blizz seems to always take the wrong path on everything. There are ways to solve all the problems they just need to stop acting like a corporate machine.

We aren’t in disagreement here which is why bringing up “It’s a private company” isn’t a useful argument. It’s just a comment made to try to shut down criticism from fanboys.
