I’ve been playing my paladin to lv56 in wow classic. But today it tells me that my character “Yao” is flagged for rename. What is wrong with this name? I don’t think it breaks any naming policy.
I’ve submitted a web ticket, but the support never respond.
You’ll want to wait on your appeal. It does seem like an odd one to be pressed for a name change. Even after googling it I’m not finding any inappropriate uses.

It might be because it’s the name of an ethnic minority in China.
It’s also a partial Japanese word for a specific “adult” type of visual and written …entertainment.
Regardless, the forums are not the spot for appeals. Violations are solely at Blizz’s discretion.
Tickets are triaged and then entered into a queue. Responses are not instant and can sometimes take a while depending on current volume. Classic generates a LOT of tickets in and of itself.
That doesn’t seem like it would warrant any action.
Hmm… that seems pretty absurd to me… part of a word for some seemingly obscure pornographic genre.

Of course not. You added to the discussion by offering an opinion on what might be the trigger. I simple responded that I thought that would be a very odd reasoning and hoped the OP got the violation overturned on appeal.
Obscure is relative. I’m obviously not as exposed to this genre as others.
It’s just a discussion. It’s not a bad thing to understand why something might be inappropriate so it’s not repeated.
Yet, such a discussion of said violation is between Blizz and the person that is filing the appeal.
The appeal is not a discussion. The appeal is simply a request for a new GM to review the account action.
However, it is not our business to know the why or the end result of the appeal. All we can do is offer advice and hope for the best.
That’s what a ticket is for, appeals are not done over the forums.
Reopening this thread as there is some confusion over what may have happened here. It doesn’t look like the name was penalized, or even reported, as I am unable to find an associated ticket that would have been reviewed by our staff prior to the character being flagged for a name change.
So my question, Frostmoune/Yao, did you recently delete/undelete that character? If you had deleted the character and someone took the name in the meantime, that would explain why the character would have been flagged for a rename. That is the only explanation I can think of that would also explain a lack of a name change report/note.
