happened here as well, usually when in group just after killing a boss. I dont usually do much in the way of quests but it seems that mining/herbing may also be problematic. Thanks for the info everyone

I got through 1 boss as a tank on my DK and my game froze, tried to reload and it booted me out and when I tried to log back in it gave me the “character name already exists”, now I’m on my Pally and it’s not letting me do anything in game.

Happened to me in a dungeon. Looted final boss and then got stuck and had to force quit. Now i can’t log back in.

Happening to me too, apparently time walking dungeons are bugged if you loot you can’t do anything and now, I can’t log back into my toon.

The same thing has happened to me three or four times as well. The game is not playable in its current state.

Yup, having this same issue on my main toon:
Ported to Legion Dalaran after completing a M+ 10, decided to go over & turn in the ‘Whispering Felflame Crystal’ you get after completing the first dungeon from the weekly Legion Timewalking quest. Was going to have a look at the Legion Timewalking vendor only for the game to just stop working & having to do a hard log-out. I have been unable to log back in on that character, receiving the message “A Character with that name already exists.”
Was in the middle of a delve trying to loot a treasure and my game started lagging out. Tried closing WoW and logging back in and got the same error. Switching to an alt and back hasn’t resolved this issue.
Same thing happening to me. Started after first boss kill in LFR and I couldn’t loot.
Also, my warband bank is just gone. It’s popping up when I click on the bank guy in Dornegal, but it’s asking me to spend 1,000 gold to get it (as if I don’t already have it).
Currently locked out of my main 30 minutes after finishing a delve. Desync occurred just as the treasure room was opened.
Ditto for me. Several times now.
Two characters that had this issue. Even when I restart my computer and logged back on, now the characters are unstuck, but they can’t access warband bank, “The bank is being used by another member of your Warband.”
This is happening to me right now on an alt warrior.
I had just completed a WQ when it bugged out, leaving me in combat. I ran away from the area hoping to reset it, but it didn’t change. Thinking I was maybe DC’ing, I tried switching stances but nothing happened.
So I tried logging out a couple of times, but nothing. Had to force a shut down to quit, but when I tried to log in, it gets to about 75%-80% then kicks me back saying “A character with that name already exists.”
Currently DROWNING…Glub…Glub…Glub
started a heroic and before i could even do anything i noticed i coudlnt do anything at all. tryed to port in and out but coudlnt. then alt f4 but I got the charator exists thing guess i dont get to play today
I have the same issue; looted items in Azq’oroth and couldn’t leave nor interact with anything from the inventory. Hearthstones were rendered useless, spells weren’t responding, and I’m locked out from the character until it can be properly logged out. I think something crashed at Blizzard HQ and they haven’t assured the public yet.
My theory is that the code for interacting/looting/‘looting’ anything, from doors to chests to caches, has something broken in it and whatever updated fix was prepared for today rendered that issue. It could be something as minimal as an extra space or an additional character/letter. Who knows? I don’t think Blizzard will be forthcoming with a bluepost on the blunder, whatever it is.
Same issue on multiple random characters on different servers. Just plain retarded that dumb bugs like this exist.

Same issue here. I’ve reset my router and computer, but nothing works. It’s getting very frustrating. Happy Patch Day, when everything is broken, all I want to do is play … damn, miss you Greyfoo.
On a side note, I keep losing titles too.
