Changing to "Vanilla" Timeline?

How do I change to the original Vanilla timeline? I’m a new tank and I want to begin my tanking experience in dungeons with which I am well-experienced (tho’ not as a tank).

Are you talking about retail or classic? In retail choose Cataclysm from Chromie. That will give you the set of vanilla-era dungeons, though many of them have been remade over the years.

If you’re playing on WotLK classic or classic era, there’s nothing to change, so I don’t know what you’re talking about.

The vanilla timeline technically doesn’t exist anymore. It’s the Cataclysm timeline now. If you’re in Cata CT you can queue for the old dungeons that were revamped starting at level 10.

Unable to queue for dungeons

Even though you’re in the Cata timeline, not all instances open up right away. Looking at my level 10 Lightforged, I’ve got this: [image] My level 20 Void Elf has a few more: [image] But…then I went and switched over to Cata on my level 52, I was still locked out of Cata level stuff. Let me ask the question in a different way:

How do I use the Dungeon Finder to queue (or start a group) for a classic era dungeon? As far as I can tell, no timeline offered by Chromie supports queuing for, say, Deadmines.

How do I use the Dungeon Finder to queue (or start a group) for a classic era dungeon?

Whats left of the “classic” or “vanilla” experience, is lumped in with the Cata timeline. There isn’t one wholly separate for just the original content. By choosing Cataclysm, you are greeted with pretty much all old level 1-60 questing in the old world (Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor), as well as the Classic dungeons. Mind you, some of these “original” dungeons are the revamped versions, different from what you would experience in the Classic WoW game iteration. Things like Dire Maul and Maraudon are broken up into smaller dungeons rather than running the full gamut in one swoop. Scholomance, Stratholme, the Scarlet dungeons - these are the updated ones (though the current 10.1.5 has given us access to the old Scholomance, with hope of seeing other originals in the future.)

Once you hit level 30 though, you’ll be invited to quest in the Cataclysm zones (Mt. Hyjal, Vash’jir, etc) and more dungeons open as you level too.

Thank you all. I’ve switched to the Cata timeline and, low and behold, the dungeon finder has versions of all the old dungeons.

Just to be clear, I’m uninterested in playing the classic era release on this character. I just want to run lowbie, tank n’ spank, dungeons to learn how to tank.
