Posted the other day about getting a suspension bc of my pet being named covid on my alliance hunter. I also have a horde hunter with a pet with the same name. Only the alliance pet was mentioned in the suspension and is the only one with a forced name change.
So I’d like to know: how can I get my horde hunter pets name also changed to your liking since you didn’t bother to update both? If this was such a problem that a suspension was necessary I’d think you’d check the entire account. I can’t use the contact customer support tool because when I choose ‘change hunter pet name’ it says tough luck you’re stuck with the name you chose and we can’t do anything about it. So I can’t even report it as an issue!
You gave me zero communication in this incident, never emailed me, never had a forced name change upon logging in, never was told the name was inappropriate, never had any problems prior, so when your websites says “a player will receive a warning about the offending name and will be assigned a randomly generated temporary name. A message will be sent to the account’s registered email address with instructions on how to change the temporary name to one of the player’s choosing” I know this is a lie. I don’t trust Blizzard or the support team one bit to do the right thing and I know my account would be flat out banned if there was another report.
You can use the link below to provide them with the character and server with the pet that needs a name change. They’re typically very lenient when you self-report.
It’s up to us as players to choose appropriate names for our characters and pets. They’re not required to provide you with warning or a discussion etc.
9 months ago covid wasn’t even a word 99% of the population knew. It is not sexual, racist, homophobic, derogatory or a swear word. It is a noun. Just like all the other plagues, diseases, and curses in the game. I understand some might be sensitive to it but people are also sensitive to guns yet they remain in the game.
So the rules aren’t actually rules, but an interpretive guide with no set structure. Got it.
Problem is people interpret things differently. Look at politics. Rules need a set structure and changes should be communicated, not left up for people to figure out after they’ve been broken.
If you feel that the rules need to be more specific or need to be changed, you’ll want to post your suggestion in the General Discussion forums.
I get that you might have chosen the pet name prior to the pandemic. Totally understand. But this pandemic is costing people their lives, lives of those they know and love, or even of those they used to know. So I also understand why people would not want to see pets/players with the name in-game.
The good news is that if you use the link I provided, I have little doubt that they’ll help out with the pet name.
Just a side note, if this is in Classic (which I assume it is since in Retail you can easily change your pet name), you might also want to include some options in your ticket for what you’d like to see the pet named.
Blizzard is reactive, not proactive when it comes to naming violations. Basically your realm mates reported the name, blizz checked the report , ruled it as inappropriate, and advised you to change the name.
They don’t have the manpower to manually police millions of hunter pets, battle pets, character names and guild names for potential violations.
It’s a virus that has killed almost a million people on this Earth and caused problems for twenty million more. Personally, having been acquainted with people that have died from it, I don’t want to see it on some hunter pet. Like, “oh, my pet is COVID and it will kill you.”
That’s a flippant attitude to have towards a pandemic. I personally think we should have a bit more respect. So, I report COVID, same as I report “cancer,” “AIDS,” “Opiatelord,” and names of other problems plaguing the human race that really shouldn’t be thrown around in a recreational game for teens.
Yet, many people have been affected by it - either dying, being very sick, loss of business and homes due to lock downs (particularly in Victoria, Australia where I live) causing loss of incomes and livelihood.
The name is, simply put, in very, very bad taste because it’s very much real and in our faces 24/7 on the news, in the papers, everywhere…
Many of us are under curfew because of it. Having no social contact besides online. My own mother is dying from an unrelated disease and sadly if she passes I’m not allowed to travel interstate due to borders being locked down.
The last thing I want to see in WoW is the name Covid. That is why I will happily report.
I don’t know why you are arguing your case here. No one here can overturn you suspension. I’d suggest you’d take this time to reflect on your name choices and crass attitude towards sensitive issues.
It’s not really a matter that is up for debate. Blizzard has agreed your pet’s name is in poor taste or inflammatory. You have agreed to follow the ToS by continuing with your subscription.
You’re of course welcome to make your suggestions via the in game suggestion module or in response to your ticket when it’s closed out.
