Hi, to give you a little background on myself I leveled a ret paladin to 60 in classic. Was a casual also.
Now, I see lots of threads here about the changes/nochanges. Some are a bit ridiculous. But the point people have to remember is info is available now about specs being borderline useless.
I leveled my ret to cap to find out I can only really raid as a healer.(sure ppl would bring a ret if there were no other dps available).
Now I can completely understand peoples view of no changes. But part of the reason people even played the hybrid classes is they didn’t know that their spec was crap at level cap. Also, (private servers are proof of this) the realm pops are gonna be pretty much 60%+ warr/rogue/mage.
Now before anyone flames this, I don’t know if I’m even gonna play classic but I will say if I do I’ll be playing warr/rogue/mage. I know more now then I did then.
This time around if I find a guild before launch I will play a Druid again… Healing for my guys until I get good enough gear to dps and then I will dps or heal as the guild needs.
If I do not find a guild before launch I will go Lock or Mage.
In raid I can as balance out dps about 33% of the 40 man because most people suck… BUT… there is that stigma…
So how much should we change classes? I can agree some light changes in the spirit of vanilla would be a great idea (Apocalypse suggested changing the ret talent vengeance to cause all physical damage dealers to do 5% extra damage, another person suggested swapping blessing of kings and repentance). This gives ret a 5% raid wide buff and a spec dependent buff.
But major overhauls and post vanilla changes should flat out not happen at all.
According to the lead classic developer, none at all. Classes will not change. The lead classic developer said to go play BfA if you want class rebalancing.
Vanilla is classic. Classic is vanilla. People need to accept that, or go play BfA.
You make it sound like no one ever did any research or did any digging into their characters… everyone knew what classes were good and what werent, just like they do now. We played them because they were fun and different.
We had lots of resources back then… just like we do now. If you restrict yourselves to some arbitrary class choices you are only depriving yourself of fun. Not every choice we made revolved around DPS.
I was thinking more along the lines of flat damage buff instead of sweeping changes. (Mana for druid as well) but I see this messing with pvp. Also if this was done gameplay would be the same.
Idk whatever makes it not irrelevant. Not talking equal to warrs just not pointless.
Also don’t know what the right answer is. If left completely as is no one will really play them.
No one will play hybrids? That’s hilarious. I’m going to main a tauren druid. Am I the only one? No. I’m not. Will there be fewer of us? Yes, I’m counting on it. More loot and raid spots for me
Some of us are able to see beyond damage and healing meters and understand the real value of a hybrid.
Problem is what you consider not irrelevant another doesn’t.
We’ve got people on here who want modern balance. We’ve got others who want hybrids to do the same damage as pures.
Oh, yeah. I forgot about rogues and how they always took the druid antlers. Some rogue is gonna get my End of Dreams for sure because it’s really good for them!
We’ve already seen from private servers that people will play hybrids. Those are servers that are running 1.12 Vanilla WoW where hybrids don’t do amazing DPS, and where Fury Warrior, Rogue, and Mage can dominate the meters.
Also consider that with information more widely available, so is information on how to optimize the specs that weren’t very well accepted in Vanilla. They may not top meters but when played well, it’s not like they’re a complete embarrassment either.
Plus, some people(including myself) simply just enjoy being a healer in games. I’m thinking my main will be either a Human Priest or a Troll Shaman right now depending on which faction I pick.
Which is fine people wanting to buffbot/heal. But we’re talking about ppl playing the dps specs, which there is almost no reason to bring over the big 3. Outside of buffbot/heal is there any reason to bring a dps hybrid over the healing counterpart?
