Chances of a TBC Server Returning?

Hello,
I don’t play WoW much anymore due to my busy life. However, I was able to play a ton of Classic, TBC, and some Wrath.

The one that really stuck out to me was TBC. I loved the dungeons, zones, dailies, raids, etc.

Do you think there’s any hope for Blizzard to open a server for TBC in the next few years or should I just look elsewhere?

I hope we can get TBC again, it was awesome.

On one hand I’d say definitely not, if we didn’t get them at the logical time (pre-WotLK) and now we aren’t getting WotLK servers either.

On the other hand… the fact there’s currently five versions of the game, it’s clear they have approximately zero idea what they’re doing. Who knows where the classic rerelease schedule is going. They could pull a 180 overnight and surprise no one. I mean, people used to joke about “Shadowlands Classic” but nowadays, is it really such a joke…?

It’s clear any intention of the classic servers being “museum pieces” hasn’t panned out; rather, they’re just selling us the same game again. When Classic catches up to Retail will they hit the reboot button and start it all over again? Will we have forgotten and forgiven by then?

Loved TBC - I look forward to revisiting this down the road!

I definitely think they will return to TBC and WotLK at some point. The Classic progression will eventually end so it’s reasonable to think they will return to TBC and WotLK.

My favorite era is TBC. I’ve been advocating for it on and off over the past year or so.

Keep it simple Blizz: have an Era, TBC, and WotLK server and allow for paid transfers between them to monetize them. If people want to exist on just one server, then enjoy the income from their sub. If players want to move around (progress or regress), then enjoy the subs and transfer funds. Easy to maintain and most “classic” players are happy.

I’d like to speak to a manager…hi, where can I experience TBC Classic? #PermanentFreshTBCEraWhen!!

Definitely curious as to when the “classic progression” will end. I used to think it would end with WotLK since the original world was a large draw for the concept, but now with Cata, we have to move the goalposts.

I’m gonna say…next to none. A TBC or Wrath server means another install, another client.

Right now they’ve only got 2 for Classic. Era, Hardcore, and SoD all run off the same client. It’s just a matter of server selection. And then the Progression servers.

Make a petition with 100,000 signatures and your wish will be granted. But I doubt you can get 100. There is no point to make a server for a community of 100 people? There will be no new subs, the dead vanila era will ve splitted into dead vanila era and dead tbc era.

this is not accurate.

It did end. Cata isn’t “classic.” If you want to play Classic now, you will need to play a vanilla server. And this is why many of us want a TBC server, since it is (for us) the best version of classic. It combines a great deal of vanilla with a little twist at the end. It is Classic+.

I agree with all of this, but it’s clear their definition of “classic” differs from ours. I used to think it would make sense to end at WotLK since after that the old world is changed (a big draw of “classic” as a concept). But since the forthcoming Cata proves they don’t consider that part of their definition of “classic”, chances are we’ll get MoP afterward.

My point is, where are they going to draw the line? People used to joke about eventually getting Shadowlands classic (or re-release if you prefer), but it’s starting to look less like a joke.

A hundred people? There are literally thousands of people playing BC on PS’s.

Yes. Sorry if I sounded belligerent. My grumble is with Blizzard, for exactly the reasons that you outlined.

They need to take the “classic” out of Cata and in any case the players should refuse to call it classic once it moves onto Cata, because it isn’t classic anymore. I don’t know what we would call it from Cata moving forward: Wow Reruns?

Blizzard is a company, they work on profits. Making a tbc server for a tiny community nets them negative profits. The ones who raise tbc banners are from either era servers (which are on their death beds) or maybe wotlk servers, they don’t go anywhere even if there are no tbc servers.
Making a new tbc server doesn’t guarantee to pull in pserver’s players, people play on pservers mainly either to f2p or p2w, there is no reason for them to abandon their characters to come to another small-size sever and pay for it. Maybe a small fraction of them will come but it doesn’t worth the effort.
In short, Blizzard won’t waste money on “destined to die” servers. Stop dreaming.
Unless you can make a petition with a hundred thousand signatures like classic era movement did, I am sure blizzard will restart their engine for classic tbc. But I doubt you can get even 100.
I didn’t play classic tbc, I will definitely try it if blizzard creates one, but I don’t insist on them to make one because it is what it is. I still have various versions of wow to enjoy.

I didn’t get to play TBC Classic that much due to my busy life at the time and such. So I would love for “TBC forever” and/or “Wrath forever” realms that will stay at those expansions forever.

I had thought when I got my Wrath Classic character to 80 that Blizzard would realize that nothing beyond Wrath is Classic and that those realms would stay at Wrath forever. But I guess I was expecting too much. Once Blizzard announced those realms would all progress to Cataclysm and there would be no “Wrath only” option, I lost all interest in playing my Wrath characters. If I had known from the beginning that Blizzard would do this, I probably would’ve never made characters on these “progression” realms.

I’m hoping that once Cataclysm “classic” comes out that there’s very few people who show interest so that Blizzard will realize that “Wrath forever” realms and “TBC forever” realms are the way to go. And maybe if I’m even luckier, they might even let me copy my existing characters over to those realms instead of making me level up new characters.

TBC marked a shift in dungeon design that really set the stage for the kind of dungeons we now see in Vanilla. Unfortunately, for me, this just didn’t resonate. I really enjoy the sprawling dungeon crawl design approach of Vanilla dungeons. Furthermore, while I’ve never really enjoyed questing, I just found the Vanilla design to be more engaging from a world point of view than the more efficient and centralized TBC approach that ultimately got distilled down into what we see in retail.

With that said, for me, what I think TBC really did well was iterate on the Vanilla class design. Every class got new mechanics and adjustments that made them a lot more viable and enjoyable to play. I know some folks would argue that there are still issues, the class design felt like an enhancement of Vanilla while still staying true to it.

TBC wasn’t really my favourite and that didn’t really change on the second go around, though I do regret missing out on raiding for a second time ().

Still, the point here isn’t whether or not I liked TBC. It’s that my opinion and experiences on it are irrelevant. Lots of people, as evidenced by this post and others like it, do still love TBC and it was their favourite expansion. Era isn’t for everybody and yet it’s popular enough to have a lot of people playing it… especially as WotLK wanes and Classic moves into an expansion that is a lot more divisive.

I really don’t understand Blizzard’s hesitance here. A sub is a sub and if having TBC (and WotLK) servers for the people who want to utilize them brings people in then just spin one up. If this were 4 years ago prior to TBC Classic I would be inclined to accept some kind of technical challenge but Blizzard has already solved that problem.

So… what gives?

I would say it might come, but not sure if it might come in cata as we have sod to deal with, if the game ends with mop we might see it after mops final phase, if it ends with legion, we might see it after mops final phase.

have you ever done the quest in tbc to unlock black temple? it sends you literally everywhere. if its a zone in azeroth or outlands, you probably have to go there lol. ten times worse than the vanilla quest, the missing diplomat and surpasses the onyxia unlock too. karazhan unlock pretty epic too
