Blizzard doesn’t even control 100th of a percent of global speech… Doesn’t even seem that the word was censored because it is all over this topic and isn’t actually a word that almost anyone would censor to begin with.
Sorta like when someone is pretending to be offended because they broke the rules they already knew about
no, they think its a bad rule and should be ousted, simple as that. if you dont like profanity, keep your filter on. if someone cleverly circumvents it by switching the c and the k in the F word to make you see it through your filter, report them then. reporting people for pressing shift 8 over and over again is frankly ridiculous, the * character is not a curse word, and if it has a connotation attached to it in context, it is no different then the people who say “holy buckets” or “what the flicker”, they found a way to avoid using the word and use a euphemism, while still implying the same thing. “go screw yourself” isn’t getting a ban, but if i typed “go shift8x4 yourself” it would, despite in both situations meaning the exact same thing and in both situations there being no difference, you used a euphemism for the real word, one with substituting letters and the other substituting characters
Only when taken to the extreme edges rationality, just like every rule ever
me typing stars, them getting reported, results in me getting banned/silenced.
that’s not an extreme edge of rationality, that’s me going out of my way to NOT break the rules.
I smell a room full of robot snitches.
Just because you don’t like a rule doesn’t mean you can break it.
Really sounds like people are being offended about breaking known rules.
Rip.
Just because you don’t like a rule doesn’t mean you can break it
they can certainly ask for something they don’t like to be changed. youve asked for your fair share of changes in this game over the years. and you refuted nothing i said whatsoever, just threw out more of your own talking points. is typing stars “profane?” because you currently get actioned for it
I hear those points all the time but if the rule doesn’t make sense why would somebody not question it?
Why else would they have a filter if not to protect the people from seeing it? I get you cant skirt laws just because you don’t like them… but that’s the only way to get it changed is by questioning them rather than blindly following them.
Granted this is small potatoes compared to say laws but still you don’t blindly follow everything without questioning it there’s no logic behind it
if the rule doesn’t make sense why would somebody not question it
blind obedience
What I say to my friends in private is of no concern to Blizzard.

Feel free to ask for anything. I never once implied you can’t.
But if you break the rules based on “I don’t like them”…then expect consequences.

Why else would they have a filter if not to protect the people from seeing it? I get the pretentious Kurt laws just because you don’t understand them but that’s the only way to get changed is by questioning them rather than blindly following them.

I didn’t say you cant question it.
I am starting to worry about basic reading comprehension.
blind obedience
And blind disobedience is better?
dystopia
Dystopia can only be the future of humanity if you think about it.
It’s what we, humans, are good at!
I’ve not encountered any censoring of in game chats or anything of the sort. I’m a New Yorker, so we know I have colorful language. That being said, I believe this is operator error and not much else. Either you have an addon conflicting, or something else is wrong with your interface. But I do not believe this is a Blizzard problem.
Fun fact, Blizzard censored the N-word across all their servers during a raiding stream for some popular raiders.
It returned an internal server error. You couldn’t say it in-game, BNet, or whispers with friends. One of my friends tried it to see if it was true.
Edit, it just did it again when making this post.
Oh. I thought you meant in game. My bad.
That’s what I get for reading while at work. Yeah, forum is pretty locked down as far as questionable words are concerned. Just the way it is.
On the plus side, forces you to be creative and come up with new terms
But if you break the rules based on “I don’t like them”…then expect consequences.
ignoring us wanting it changed, let’s look at how it currently is:
stars are not profane and are indeed following the rules and you still can get punished for typing them, shift 8 over and over. its very broken in its current form and is open to arbitrary, random punishment.
people turn off their profanity filter then get offended when they see profane language. blizzard obviously knows profane language is going to be used, and WANTS to allow people to be able to see it, which is why they have a filter in the first place. if i hang out in trade chat and get angry when i see something political or whatever it is, i joined trade chat. the only difference is, sometimes i need to join trade chat. they NEVER need to have their profanity filter off if they dont want to see it. Like i said, if someone has their profanity filter on, and i switch the order of the c and the k in the F word to essentially make them see what I’m saying, or put a random space in the middle of a swear word to bypass the filter so they have to see it, that’s one thing. if they turn theirs off then see it, that’s another. the same way you’re saying people should accept the consequences for breaking the rules they knew about, okay thats a fair argument, but then the people who turned off the profanity filter and knew they’d be seeing profanity then refuse to take responsibility for being the one responsible for seeing that profanity because they turned off their filters are just as at fault. they had better accept the consequences for turning off blizzard’s own profanity filter, which is essentially saying “i want to see profanity”
me typing stars, them getting reported, results in me getting banned/silenced.

No, you are knowingly breaking the rules.
You know that profanity is not allowed.
You know that “masked” profanity is not allowed.
You chose to use “masked” profanity by typing asterisks in place of letters in a context where it is quite obvious what is being replaced.
You didn’t go out of your way to avoid breaking the rules, you went out of your way to break the rules differently.
Trying to equate the deliberate breaking of rules to using euphemisms is taking the rule to the extreme edge of rationality.
N-word
Nasa? Nachos? Naked? Necrotic? Nationalization?
Yeah, I have mine off and as someone who spent 10 years on active duty in the Infantry I have some colorful language. And when I get annoyed, it becomes very colorful. But I can’t remember it ever being filtered before.
Ninja (Leprechaun reference), obviously.
