Celestial gear for Throne can't be upgraded

I understand that in the original version there were no udgrades for most of the Throne of Thunder gear, and blizz even adjusted the normal and heroic tiems so they could be on par with Thunderforged gear.

In my opinion, Clestials items should also be udgradeable is just 502 in throne. Right now almost everyone is already 503+ ilvl, so I think it’s necessary for this gear to be udgradeable as well. It would make the game feel more alive, with everyone spamming the queue just like they are now.

It’s catch up gear for people who are behind.

Yeah.. upgradable gear could be good.

You have the Alliance/horde campain rep items in Krasarang which can be upgraded to 504 already.

I was surprised that the celestial gear is both 502 and not upgradeable, in terms of catch up mechanics it’s not too great, it’s worse than msv gear by 8 ilevels in this form, certainly by only grinding celestials you won’t be caught up at all

People farming catch up gear are not typically running heroic versions of older raids.

yeah, that’s my point, the catch up mechanics leave you behind 8 ilevels behind in gear from people who cleared msv 4 months ago

Why would catch up gear provide better stats than heroic raid content? It’s intended to get you to an appropriate level for normal Throne of Thunder.

it wouldn’t, 510 ilevel is worse than 514-517 ilevel

if it doesn’t catch you up it’s not really catch up gear is it

the cata catch up gear was basically full heroic gear minus tier

if i’m in a running race and i’m 100 metres behind, i didn’t catch up if you put me 50 metres behind

throne of thunder normal drops 522 gear, that’s 20 ilevels (1.5 tiers) ahead of the lfr, that’s just weird.

compare it todays’ 483 from celestial and 489/496 from normal raids, the catch up mechanic has lost 7 ilevels

I’m not trying to be rude but the game is handing out raid ready gear like Halloween candy so people that didn’t play phase 1 or freshly leveled alts can hop into normal ToT after a couple hours of grinding and yet we’re stilling whining about wanting more. Like you can’t even gear up this insanely fast in retail.

Is it that big of an inconvenience to clear normal once or twice for upgrades? Should they just add full heroic raid gear to the store?

you completely ignored every point i made and said i was whining lol

Ignore the idea that the Celestials were created just to add some side content to the game. Their real purpose is to give players another path for gearing, classic is for casual players. For example, if your raid doesn’t drop anything for your off-spec, you can run Celestials instead of waiting another whole week for raid ID reset. Raids lock you for a week, Celestials are unlimited. You can help a friend while gearing yourself for raid, and they can progress with you.

If you remove the upgrade system, then you’re basically full gear just like everyone else, leaving new players behind. If the only motivation for Celestials becomes low-RNG mounts and the cloak, then people will run them only for a short time. And the cloak is usually farmed with your already fully-geared veteran group anyway.

Celestials also follow the theme and lore of the current raid, so it makes sense that their rewards should be comparable. But right now you’re giving us gear that’s way worse than what we already got in the past weeks.

In short, Celestials are perfect as they are. At most, I would add some mounts or cosmetics purchasable with fragments, but I wouldn’t remove a core system that works. It doesn’t matter if some players don’t like others enjoying gearing up and playing with friends that’s what keeps an MMORPG alive.

They could add more world events instead of reputation grinds, allow more raid IDs where you don’t get loot but can trade items someone doesn’t want, or even expand profession gear with challenging quests that don’t depend on raids but still require effort. But Blizzard won’t invest much coding into Classic anyway, so it’s better to leave Celestials as they are.

It’s fine as it is. Doing normal mode with my guild got my rogue to 500ilvl. Did only Celestials on DK and got it to 490ilvl. New Celestials will bump that up to 502 and give new tier set bonuses. Casuals and alts can still have progression even if they don’t do normal or heroic raids.

prolly because if it were upgradeable it would make all the current normal mode toes/hof gear completely irreverent

You can get to like 491-497 ilvl with current celestials+ valor gear. Having new celestials at 502 ilvl is a little low and people won’t participate as much

Yes, it won’t be useful to many, and the new players will be left on their own, because the veterans will only rush for their legendary cape.

Interesting how the only people defending this poor decision are raiders.

Imagine Blizzard listening to the 0.01% of players who don’t pay the bills, but cry loudly that “casuals shouldn’t get any handouts!”

The decision to lock new Celestial dungeon gear at 502, without upgrades, is yet another business decision like removing Raid Finder for Classic. People actively turn away from this product because the few devs in charge have not a clue what they are doing to the community.

I think a good middle ground is allowing celestial gear to be upgraded 1/1 times

Putting it just behind H non upgraded HoF/ToES gear

Eh, it puts it between upgraded Normal MSV and T14 gear, which is where you want to be going into Normal Throne of Thunder anyway, making it exactly what it needs to be as catch up gear. While I do think it’s silly to not be upgradeable, I also don’t think it’s that big a deal

As a raider I don’t see the problem with having celestial gear be upgraded, The old tier is dead, people can still do it if they wish and they can even do heroic to get 517 or so but that’s a lot of effort when celestial gear is there already. It’s more than doable to do ToT at 500 ilvl, so I don’t understand why 10 more ilvls makes that much of a difference.

They’ve already proved more than once they don’t care about making anything ‘as it was’ only to come up with an update no one wanted in the first place, I say make cele gear upgradeable, It’s small decisions like this that drive people away, I just don’t see how it’s negative.
