Im going to start this off by saying that I understand this is my own fault. My guild funneled me the first set piece because I had a vault set up that allowed me to get my 4 piece instantly with a single drop. Raid lead sent me back to get my set as soon as it happened to help prog next boss. In my rush I somehow ended up converting boots on accident.
I saw the help article regarding fixing catslyst charges and their stance basically came down to “get wrecked” to keep people from abusing the system. But I just need to argue that this policy just doesn’t make sense given the changes to how catalyst works this season. The only way I can think of that this could be abused is through the old system that would change the stats on an item. That doesn’t happen any more. Catalyst charges on anything except the tier set granting slots are purely cosmetic. If that is going to be the case then either the policy needs to change to reflect this or Blizz needs to put in a different way to handle this in game. Maybe a specific warning if you shoot yourself in the foot before you get your achievement.
I permanently set my character’s progression back one or two weeks for a boot transmog on accident. Every lost chance at a catslyst charge between now and when I get lucky enough to fix this or my next gauranteed charge is going to easy me up. Unless these freah kicks are somehow the only thing that can stop Ula’tek I really dont see how not making exceptions for non tier power slots is reasonable. I’m not going to hold my breath that this can be fixed. But I’ve been kicking myself for hours and hopefully at least shining some light on how the policy needs to update to match the current state of the game might let me sleep.
Posting in this particular forum won’t help one bit as it’s a player to player support forum. You’ll want to post using the in game suggestion feature or in general that’s where devs see feedback.
That’s some farm fresh hyperbole you got there. That’s not it at all, and you know it.
They’re keeping players accountable for their own actions. There are so many confirm/deny prompts in the game for things, that at a certain point they have to let your choices be choices, in a hurry, making mistakes, what have you. It takes literally a few seconds to double check yourself.
Now, I admit I haven’t played since the new patch and am unaware of the new catalyst changes. Is there not still a confirm/deny prompt? If there is, again, player accountability comes into play.
Suggestions are not seen in this forum. You can post to the general forums, or use the in-game suggestion tool if you wish to make a suggestion.
Literally started the post by acknowledging that this was my own fault. The point was that the warning of “are you sure you want to make this a tier piece” does nothing to stop an unaware player. The game is literred with acknowledgement warnings that Blizz will fix in other cases. The support article literally acknowledges that players specifically reach out to support when they convert pieces that do not contribute to their 4 set but that they will not reverse player error because it would allow people to abuse the system by converting pieces to get better stats then undoing it to recover charges after further boss kills.
If Blizz acknowledges that specifically is a common problem then their current in game warning clearly isn’t working. The 5 second countdown does nothing to explain to a player that converting a wrong slot could cause a significant loss of player power. If the reason for the policy is to prevent abuse of a system that no longer exists then the policy itself should be re-examined. Or at least a separate warning of “hey you dont have your 4set achievement and this piece will not count” could be worth considering since Blizz admits it to be a common enough occurrence to specifically address.
The 5 second window is meant to encourage you to double check you are converting the right item. By default hovering over the new item will pop up the tooltip. Pieces included in a tier set bonus specifically say they are part of that bonus.
There is only so much that Blizzard can do in regards to hand holding. They already have tooltips, pop-up windows, quest lines, and confirmation buttons that prompt players about converting an item at the catalyst.
It’s a hard lesson to learn, I do feel for you. But I can basically guarantee you won’t make that mistake again in game.
Can you point out some examples? I can’t think of anything that has a confirmation warning that Blizzard will undo.
That’s what the five second countdown is for. For you to make sure you’re making the right decision. If you’re not double checking yourself in five seconds, then why should Blizz waste time and manpower to constantly fix things for players? If they had to fix everything for anyone who can’t double check themselves, ticket times would be astronomical and people would be complaining about bad customer service when it’s the customers making things worse.
Again, player accountability. Hard lesson to learn, but them’s the brakes.
The Game Developers put in a number of protections to help players avoid making mistakes. They have warning boxes for most purchases made with alternate currencies, there are refund timers that allow you to undo an accidental purchase/exchange from a vendor for those items, etc… The warning can help a great deal, but no, it isn’t going to help everyone, especially if they are careless.
The point isn’t really to avoid all such instances that someone might make a mistake, but to try to give folks some agency to avoid it and some situations possibly correct those mistakes when they happen.
There are so many protections that can be put in though before every action requires a pop up box to confirm the pop up box on the pop up box making sure that you are absolutely totally sure that you want to do what you are trying to do. That invites a very tedious way to play.
If you feel the overall system should be changed, that is not something that the Customer Support staff has any jurisdiction over. You’ll want to provide such feedback by posting in the Community forums or by using the Submit a Suggestion option through the in-game menu under Support.
