I get your point but also there are combo meals and occasional promotions and such that do just that. Wrath era could be that free small fries. How much does it really cost to run a couple wrath era servers anyway? People always talk about that but I have never seen actual $ numbers mentioned. We can only speculate. If the real estate, hardware, and labor are covered as a whole by subscription and store profits, I really don’t see how wrath era servers would be costly in a way that any other server is not. Profit margins on fountain soda are probably massive compared to beef. Does mcdonalds stop selling burgers and just sell soda? So what if wrath era players do not produce as much revenue as a cataclysm boost enjoyer, I doubt it’s a loss at all.
how about cata be the separate fee + all that and wrath stays with retail and all the other potential ‘classic’ remakes, sounds key to me since cata is de best so all you thousands and millions can have a good time. kek.
Honestly there should be at least one server for each expansion. These days people get bored (boredom is a self inflicted wound) and move on quickly. They should be able to hop on to a different era and play what ever to fill their brains with hormones of addiction(s).
What you indicate is the opposite of what will happen. If anything they would open a single Wrath era server, charge $60 for the transfer and another $120 for the yearly fee paid in full upfront via card or paypal and not wow token.
The existing servers will march on unabated into Cataclysm, even though you beat the dead horse that wrath era servers need to be the current servers. lol
Yeah, SoD debunked this dream. If shoddily put together SoD can cripple WoTLK then era servers have no hope and definitely would be a stand alone product.
Why do people bring this up? Why would it be necessary? When has Blizzard ever required people pay a subscription 12 months at a time?
This is correct. My option #2 proposes wrath era be new servers that people must elect to transfer or clone over to.
People follow hype now more than ever. When the hype dies down, they return to whatever captures their interest. People come and go for the launch of new raids, go to other games, come back to WoW for the next raid release. Some people just keep playing WoW in battlegrounds or other non-progression activities. There are many people who like the sandbox that is WotLK, and could easily keep a wrath era server populated. It’s simply a different approach to the game. We do not expect there to be PUG raids at any time of day. We might only get reasonable battleground queues at primetime and on BG weekends. We are completely okay with this less progression-focused approach to the game.
Yeah, we can only speculate. But the goal of a for profit corporation isn’t to break even. It’s to make a sufficient profit for the owners, the share holders. We also can only speculate what that sufficient profit margin is but Blizzard/activision is a very successful company from a purely business perspective. What ever you or I might think about the quality of it’s games, and I’m less than happy, Microsoft is willing to pay 69 billion to acquire it. If they thought wrath era was going to make a sufficient profit they’d add the servers in a heartbeat.
Yeah I’m hoping that it’s really not that big of a decision either way for them, and that they are strategizing to get as many cataclysm bundle purchases as possible. Get people to think wrath is going away and go all in on cata, but then before launch they reveal they will offer wrath era realms.
Maybe so, maybe they’ll decide in the end to add a wrath era server. I’m not against the idea. I’m moving onto Cata and it doesn’t hurt me at all if they have wrath era servers.
No
Here are your two options
Play cata
Don’t play cata
Everyone is already wrath raid logging because there is nothing to do. Stop trying to design the 12 year old game. Just get over it.
Watching all these people squirm because they wanna stay in dead content for another month is sad.
4 of them are from the same expansion not different expansion, Yehmi you really need help man. Everytime i come to the forums it’s just your anti wrath propaganda. Did Wrath hurt you or something ?
And you need help at reading.
Never have I said its good that we have 3 Vanilla iteration. Main issue with Wrath fanatics: only my world matters.
And honestly just merge all the servers together. That way it all just acts as one mega server. That way you don’t have folks complaining about how their realm is dead.
I think the demand is high enough for like 1 or 2 servers. And I think leaving everyone where they are at and just linking all of the servers together is probably the best compromise.
No rehmi. Wrath fan boys don’t just care about their world lol. That is you and alot of other players. Basically telling us that, we don’t know anything. And that we all get cataclysm classic whether we like it or not. Like it or leave it.
And no. It shouldn’t be that way. We are saying everyone should have access to their favorite version of the game. You and alot of other players are the narrow minded ones. Not the wrath classic players lol.
We wrath classic fan boys want everyone to be able to play their respective version of wow whenever they want, and to have more options and playstyles. That is what we want.
Permanent bc classic. Permanent wrath classic. Permanent cataclysm classic. Permanent pandaria classic. You name it, we should all have acces to any permanent version of wow you can possibly think of.
I am fine with starting over again on a new wrath server if that is what it takes to have Blizzard let us keep Wrath. I just want a couple of servers that are dedicated Wrath servers after Cata launches. Don’t think that is too much to ask. Blizzard, you did it for Vanilla when TBC launched, so do it for the Wrath junkies as well!
Inherently your argument is flawed right now. Logging in to a WOTLK realm will support how flawed. No one is logging in…everything you said after that is irrelevant.
Even wrath lovers stopped playing lol.
I’ve been trying to explain this to certain posters, but it doesn’t seem to sink in. A mass exodus already from Wrath Classic isn’t going to convince Blizzard to make Era servers.
shush you two, there is still a chance <3
If they were to release WotLK Era servers then you’d just copy it, that is if it were before the launch of Cataclysm. The problem is though is that if WotLK were to get era servers then TBC should get them too, then Cata, MoP, etc which will do nothing but splinter an already splintered playerbase.
Now there is an argument for era servers, specifically WotLK but with the failure of Classic Era, how it died pretty much as TBC launched I can’t see Blizzard making another Era server any time soon.
I don’t think it will splinter the players very much. The vast majority will move onto the next expansion until it reaches one that people dislike. Each expansion will have and less players until blizzard decides to scrap classic. Could be WoD, could be BfA, but sooner or later classic will die. A small fringe group will play era and every one of the era servers will lose blizzard money if they’re convinced to do them. Then they might start over or try more expanded SoD type games. Somewhere along the time line Microsoft will take over and we’ll see what they decide to do with the classic games.
Correct, I should’ve specified and said era servers in the near future. I can 100% see them adding them later down the line in like 5 years.
