Cataclysm: The Devastation to the Protection Warrior

To those of you who are unaware. During The Burning Crusade, Blizzard seemed to have fixed the problem with some specs being entirely and completely useless(Ret Pallys, Prot Pallys, Boomkins, etc). Butt. Seemingly to arise once again during the destruction of Deathwing. The Protection Warrior waits for his day to be able to tank…
During Cataclysm, Mastery became a major stat for every class. For tanks, their avoidance(defense cap) was centered around their mastery. For some reason though, they forgot to give warriors a way to avoid taking a crit from a raid boss and dying instantly. until LITERALLY DRAGON SOUL (THE DEATHWING RAID) THEIR IS NO WAY TO GET DEFENSE CAP ON WARRIOR AND TANK A STINKING HEROIC DUNGEON. WHY!?!??

With the re-release of Cataclysm, please take a look at giving Protection Warriors either a talent(Like Feral Druids) or change Mastery for them to make it so they can [TANK} dungeons, raids and possibly even a heroic.

So I just looked up a Cataclysm talent tree calculator and it looks like Prot Warrior already has a talent to make them uncrittable: Bastion of Defense.

it’s kinda amusing and depressing that this is a wotlk forum and people are already complaining for cata :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

Defense as a stat no longer exists in Cata. You have to take a talent to be uncritable as a tank in cata.

The evolution of the classic player base from Classic Vanilla to now is pretty funny.

Whether you like or dislike Retail is totally fine, but it’s pretty obvious the players drove Blizzard to make the casual side of retail what it is today. Player problem.

for sure , it’s very interesting how we can witness the fast development from vanilla classic to retail , the influence from the player base and the results through these 20 years

They released WotlkC with the final class tuning/balance in place so I wouldn’t be surprised if they do the same with CataC.

That’s why rets were so awful in phase1 since they were tuned (nerfed) to phase 4 tier bonuses and needed the buff to keep up. Now with the buff, they’re viable enough to deserve SM so that’s why it was never removed. In OG WotLK, you very rarely saw a ret with SM (if at all) which is why I suspect so many furies are angry about the ret buff in classic.

The feral buff was to address bear-weaving which wasn’t the intended play style and ended up being a bigger buff than anticipated since bear-weaving affected only the top 10% of feral players and the buff affected them all.
Classic devs admitted as much and claimed they learned from these past mistakes (they tried to fix the feral buff multiple times but couldn’t) so hopefully CataC will be better balanced for all classes (not all specs- obviously some are better for pvp by design).
