Cataclysm “classic” is never going to happen

Party finder is a wrath feature and seeing as how it’s not in wrath classic it won’t be in cata classic.

Agree 100%
I saw WOW die once. And I will not allow myself to see it die another time so no thank you Cataclysm.
I would much rather see a new run of Classic from Vanilla era. But no Rush & No change. (SOM was a flop)

I’d play it for sure.
Would I mind if they skipped it and went right to mop?
Nope.

I played on the WoWBeez server back in 2010 when I was a kid and when my mom couldn’t pay for my sub so I had to resort to a free private server.

No, it doesn’t.
The pure fact that Cata was a return to form in difficulty after Wrath was a faceroll AoE fest pissed off so many people. They wanted their effortless heroics with LFD. LFR is a big complaint…why? Who cares if some casual gets some lower ilvl raid gear? If you’re better at the game, that won’t matter a single iota.

Old World quests, let’s be real, were terrible. You spent more time running than actually doing them. TBC improved a little with quest hubs, and Wrath kept that trend going. Cata had clear storylines for their zones. flying in Azeroth, people complain when there isn’t flying on release and they have to earn it, you can’t honestly be thinking that’s a valid point. Vanilla, was also, really really bad from a design and balance standpoint. Case in point: The only DPS worth having were rogues, you didnt even need a real tank, and the raids were piss easy when you had half a brain and 20 years of theorycrafting behind you.
Talent trees? Another joke, you’re insinuating you won’t pick a cookie cutter build that’s the “best” and never deviate from it anyways. Such diverse, much choice.

You’re complaining about: Illusion of choice; and change.

Ok, boomer.

Cata classic is free money for blizzard. Were gonna get it whether the blizz dev’s want it or not, shareholders will straighten out anyone who gets in the way of classic train lol.

I would crawl through 10 miles of broken glass to get to MoP, so bring on Cata with a fast content release cycle please.

A leak confirms it’s coming LUL.

RIP classic 2023.

Could a modified cata be successful though? I think it could be. It wont have the hype of any of the other classic expansion. But it has well designed and challenging raids, great pvp including RBGs, transmog, collection inspired achievements and cosmetics.

There were definetly things that made it lose its magic touch back in OG cata, but i think its a good enough platform to build off and improve.

You did not see wow die in Cataclysm. You saw it lose 2 million subs. 10 million people played all the way through cata and into MoP. 10 million is a huge number of subs that all the other MMO’s at the time would have been ecstatic to reach.

Cata is my favorite expansion even if I did not play it at the time, I remember a few months after it launched Blizzard made some promotion in my country and we could play it for a week I think and it’s when I first tried wow… I had known the game before, ever since it launched in 2004, but I had never touched it because at the time I was fully dedicated to another MMO.

I remember making a worgen and never actually leaving the starting zone but I still liked it so much that when I started playing for real when WOD launched and I made a worgen again it all came back to me, i remembered the zone and the music and it felt super nostalgic even though I had not really played the game for real then.

That’s why even to this day I’m super fond of Cata and if they ever make a Classic Cata I’m surely going to play it.

Why can’t you just not want to play it? Why does there have to be some weird boomer policing campaign about why we can’t have cata classic? Just say “no thanks! cya” instead of all this telling people how to feel.

The biggest issues with Cata were

  1. Hard heroics (won’t be an issue today by modern standards)
  2. Content drought, (Won’t be an issue either).

There are pieces here & there that players are not fond of, like water zone. But every xpac has bits & pieces not everyone enjoys.

Being #SomeChanges, Devs can implement lotta QoL features ahead of time. Look at Shadowlands for example. 9.1.5 free Cov swap made it hecka better. Implement it on Day 1 of SL release, and it would have been a MUCH better experience overall.

Same as in Wrath, apply minor balance changes to top & bottom outliers to bring them somewhat in line with the rest, and GG. Roll out content patches properly and everyone is happy.

Not unless Blizzard make major changes. I’m not talking about the tinkering they’ve done with original WoW, TBC and WotLK Classic. But proper full on developmental and redesign changes.

And if you remember when Blizzard announced Classic a few years ago now they said they weren’t going to have two versions of WoW being developed simultaneously. That they werent going to have 2 large development teams designing 2 different versions of the game.

But Blizzard could change their mind about that.

But it would cost major $$ to redo Cataclysm and theres no guarantee that people will like it and play it.

As for things like rated battlegrounds, transmog, collection, archaeology, raid finder etc those things are still in current expansion WoW. The whole point of Classic is to experience stuff we can no longer experience in modern WoW.

The safer option would be to just release a Classic Cataclysm as is or not at all. The cost of updating Cataclysm to run and be compatible with Blizzard’s current systems would be a lot less than the cost of updating original WoW, TBC and WotLK since Cataclysm is newer.

Or Blizzard could skip to a Classic Mists of Pandaria as that would be even cheaper to update and get running of systems in 2023.

Eh? I don’t think it’s a bad idea though… You’re not expecting blizz to add free character transfer from classic to retail after wrath ends right?

I always get confused when people talk about ability pruning in cata… I feel like there were way more relevant buttons for at least all of the classes I play.

Looking forward to Cata classic!

It’s a loss of money for blizzard*. Free money implies interest, when there is zero outside of people already paying for retail. The number of exclusive classic players who are interested in cataclysm is near zero, it represents everything that created the push for classic in the first place.

Som was fine, Blizzard was just dumb enough to release som at the same time TBC was released…

if they can release som when there is no active classic expansion, it will be a true fresh and popular. You can’t have 2 classic versions going at once, it splits the player base to much
