how will cata work? I only played a little of original classic and not any of the classic Xpacs. L Do I start cata at level 1? Can i level through classic BC and wrath even though I never played or purchased them? Is cata its own server ?

Classic doesn’t sell the expacs, just their upgrade packs, so there’s nothing that’s required to be purchased outside of a sub.
If you’re only just now started, then yes, you would start at level 1, leveling up to around 60, then the TBC world to around 70, then Wrath til around 80, granted you can usually start the next section a bit earlier, usually 1 to 2 levels before the previous area’s original max level.
I’m not sure what you mean by its own server though, there’s several servers, but they’re all the same world and whatnot, nothing different between any of the servers in Cata Classic aside from the usuals, pve, pvp, and rp versions of the previous two.

ah ok thanks --I thought each Xpac was its own stand alone thing. Guess i got some leveling to do

Just a bit, though leveling should go fairly quickly with rdf, quest reworking and guild bonuses

The current “prepatch” is already Cata Classic, just without access to the new areas. It is the game version that we are playing right now.
ok but see like I made a new character and shaman isn’t available for me on alliance. Which it clearly would be if this was cata or even wrath.
You’re using the wrong client. There are currently 3 to choose from, not including PTRs or Betas:
- World of Warcraft Classic (Classic era including HC and SoD)
- Cataclysm Classic
- World of Warcraft
You want to choose Cataclysm Classic if you want to play Cataclysm Classic.
