Cata is doa

Do I care if they make cata? no, not at all. I hope the FEW people that play cata enjoy it. However, let’s be real, the only people that want cata are the people that can’t fathom losing their characters they spent the last 5 years playing after wrath is done.
If they do cata, than what? MOP? than WOD ,legion, and BFA. Like it’s an actual joke…
Not only that, but they’re SEVERLEY, splitting their player base. Once cata is out they will have FIVE iterations of the game. ERA, HC, CATA, SOM2 and Retail. It’s just too much. Instead of having your classic team work on 4 projects just make classic plus, or actually put a lot of time and love into retail.
Just a rant but I really feel like going into cata is just the biggest wtf. If they do cata than we will 100% see every other (classic) xpac until they reach the modern game. OR, until no one plays it at all.
OH, and to the people huffing the cata pvp is good cope. YES, it was very good. However, as it stands literally only 10k people are queuing wrath arena at this moment. So basically, classic pvp is completely, and I mean COMPLETLY DEAD. and I mainly play the game for pvp.

  1. You cared enough to make the thread.
  2. It can’t be “DOA” until it actually launches. You mean “will be” DOA? Don’t agree with that either. I’m sure it’ll have plenty of players… at least for first 1-3 months. Then it’ll die.

I would agree that it will have plenty of players for a few months than be completely dead. and by plenty probably roughly half of what wrath had at launch. I just don’t see the hype for it at all.
The raids are actually hard so the pug scene will be dead. Many dad guilds will quit because of this as well. Doing actually challenging content that has already been out before just doesn’t sound fun lol. Just go do NEW retail raids.
Only time will tell though as you said

Weird cope. Cata will be played and by a huge population.

Not cope at all. I won’t be playing cata id play retail or SOM2 or just quit tbh. I feel bad for people that actually think it will have a huge population. There hasn’t been ONE successful cata pserver. It simply isn’t a popular xpac. And quite frankly it isn’t classic. But yeah, you’re right. I’m coping, Hard.

I don’t care if they do Cata as long as we get Wrath Era servers.

retail truly is where the money is.

Blizz isnt dumb…the vast majority of…shall we say…shady private games are still based on WOTLK. Sure theres a few Cat and a few MOP along with a Shadowrealm or Legion here or there but if you go looking more than half of ALL these servers are WOTLK based and they know this

False. Didn’t play vanilla-wotlk classic as it’s not challenging (played them and finished the raids back when they was current content). Cata (pre nerf) was the first real step into challenging content and I would so go back and play pre nerf cata again.

I love when players compare a pirated version of wow to blizzards version always makes me laugh.

Want to know the difference blizzard has the ability to make changes wrath is an example of that. I can see blizzard adding chromie in and allowing players to switch from the shattered version of azeroth to the original version.

Firelands up to the twighlight raid was very popular. And last but not least to get to mop which most players consider the best xpac players will need to lvl to 85.

Sony still does Everquest servers you are blind if you dont see what blizzard is doing with som, hardcore, era and then progressing servers to the next xpac.

the reason for this is not because wotlk is a awesome exp… its because of the client changes they made in cata making it harder to replicate. the opcodes they change every patch now made it so spells quests achievement simply logging in didnt work broke 90% of the stuff it took 5+ years to reverse engineer before cata these codes did not change at all. few patches into cata making custom quests or items required a patch to the client. i was heavy in the scene back then but to put it simple the reason you do not see these servers is because it would cost a LOT of $$ to get them to a running state without constant crashes.

wotlk still is just download run server good to go with minimal effort.

Yeah its always funny when people go then why do you see x and not y then huh like it validates the point they are trying to make while having 0 understanding as to why its the way it is.

Another thread about the same topic filled with people with blinders on.

A Cata classic is not going to be popular as the expansion is already on retail. There is literally no point to it at all and defeats the very purpose of having a classic server.

Wrath has always been widely regarded as the games best expansion and Cataclysm as the expansion that did the most harm to the game, so much so it literally made it so new players could never hope to experience 100% of what the game had before it, a thing built upon so much as the game went on that they do not even want new players to know the story anymore and dump them in a late expansion.

I look forward to Blizzard making yet another move that will drive people away from the game for no sane reason other than being locked into a narrow mindset.

Cata if launched will be very unpopular amongst the masses. So far the only players that I’ve heard excited about it are veteran players or those that have much more time to dedicate to the game compared to casual players.

Everything is significantly harder in Cata. Sure you can do normal modes, but downgrading your difficulty is also downgrading the pool of players you’ll be completing normal mode with making it almost as hard if not harder than the heroic raids.

Classic has been the most popular when the phases end game content is easy enough for all to complete, but not easy enough to do without some community involvement. It’s not that the game is too tough for your average player, it’s that once it becomes that difficult it becomes much more of a chore for those running and organizing the groups since vetting processes become vital to the success of the raid as a whole.

How many of us have done a 50/50 in ToGC or killed Algalon? Compare that to how many of us have successfully raid lead and organized those you’ll see whose putting in the bulk of the work to get these encounters the opportunity to be completed.

TBC and wotlk is on retail to but here we are so that makes no sense.

I personally like cata only thing I didn’t like is the fact you could not return to old world so everything I learned about it was made useless. I enjoyed the new zones class changes. Dungeons and raids was fun

If they made it so you can still return back to the old world if you so choose then I think it will be a better received version
