Cata feral or rogue?

I’m trying to decide which spec to play in cata but struggling a bit. I like the play style of both in wrath, like pumping in raids, and like being able to PVP or arena as well. The ability to tank in dungeons does seem nice because I don’t enjoy waiting for the RDF queue, but if I focus on only one toon the rogue may not need to do dungeons all that often when tanks are less like to be running them.

What do you guys suggest?

def rogues

Any reason you’d choose that over feral?

I think play what you want. I’m going to be playing feral, but that’s because feral is my favorite arena spec.

Doesn’t Thug Cleave start to become really popular in Cata? So even hunters, if you can find them, will be playing with Rogues over Feral a lot probably.

Hmm… if I feel like learning a class that I’ve never mained before, then this might be the time to focus on hunter (for me) or rogue. Well, now I’d like to know the answer to your question!

:woman_shrugging:

I would choose feral

What’s your reasoning?

Everyone is going to be rogue to get the legendary weapons. Good luck finding a regular group or start saving gold now for gear because there will be far too many rogues competing for limited raid spots.

…and the ones that get those spots are likely going to either have deep pockets or friends with Guild Master/are GM themselves, so all the gear will be funneled their way.

I would play Feral. If you plan to pvp/pve and run dungeons then Feral is the best choice imo. Feral will be the best OT choice for raids due to being able to swap to kitty when not tanking and do good dps. Feral is great for pvp and can even 1v2 people when played by someone competent.

Both are S tier in pvp, feral is very strong raid dps but has a complicated rotation

every comp in 2s has either a MM hunter, sub rog or feral in them,

Cata is prob one of feral druids strongest expansions for pvp.

Feral bear tank is also the best tank in cata, bears got a huge buff

rogue for pvp
Feral is class of noobs and pretenders

Did a mean feral druid hurt you?

My best memories in cata pvp were burning down fully geared blood dks in a 1v1 as a fire cat. Feral is a beast in cata

my man willio play feral. dueled it million times before. checkers levél class

Talking PvE here, but definitely rogue! Especially as Sub. Absolute peak class design and gameplay. Chef’s kiss. Not to mention the legendary dagger quest line.

However, if Cata Feral dps is anything similar to Wrath Feral dps, I’d recommend it, too. I haven’t played Feral dps in Cata, but I have played it in Wrath, and it has a lot of similarities and overlapping gameplay with Cata Sub rogues (with some key differences).

Alternatively… play both!

Edit: Huh… I thought Sub got access to Fan of Knives in Cata, but WoWhead is saying otherwise. Guess I’m conflating memories with how Sub played in MoP or WoD.

Something to note, then. You won’t have access to any form of AoE in Cata as Sub. But the good news is Sub’s single target damage is bonkers enough to make up for it!

It basically just comes down to what you like more. Druid of course has the option of tanking or healing. Rogue is probably more viable for PvP if you’re into that, having more viable comps in arena than Feral (although Feral is still great in arena).

Is it more complicated than wrath? I ask because I find that challenge refreshing after playing the braindead GCD capped fury warrior most of the expac.

Where are you seeing that?

Sub rogue great in Cata for PvP. Boomkins better than feral for PvP. Sub better than boom. But that was old Cata. Who knows how this new version will play out.

I’m pretty sure it’s easier than wrath, from what I’ve heard. I played feral in original Cata, not wrath though, and never thought of the rotation as hard. You do have to manage Savage Roar, but other than that it is just apply your bleeds, and FB (ferocious bite)

I’m getting less and less sure about the Fan of Knives thing. Just disregard what I said on that. I don’t like spreading misinformation, and I can’t confidently say it is or isn’t an ability Sub can use in Cata.

Guess we’ll see in Cata, lol.
