personally I made a mount macro and a dismount macro, changing to carrot on a stick and changing boots as well since spurs do nothing for pvp when you aren’t riding. dismount replaces the preferred as well as the preferred boots. mount looks something like:
#showtooltip Horn of the Dire Wolf
/equipslot [nomounted] 14 Carrot on a Stick
/equipslot [nomounted] 8 Swift Boots
/dismount [mounted]
/stand
/use Horn of the Dire Wolf
and dismount:
#showtooltip Horn of the Dire Wolf
/dismount [mounted]
/stand
/equipslot [nomounted] 14 Rune of the Guard Captain
/equipslot [nomounted] 8 Crusader’s Boots of Stamina

I use two macros, short cut them or keybind . A mount and since I’m also running spurs on spare boots its just easier imo.
mount macro:

#showtooltip Horn of the Dire Wolf
/equipslot [nomounted] 14 Carrot on a Stick
/equipslot [nomounted] 8 Swift Boots
/stand
/use Horn of the Dire Wolf
its not really complicated and unmount:

#showtooltip Horn of the Dire Wolf
/dismount [mounted]
/stand
/equipslot [nomounted] 14 Rune of the Guard Captain
/equipslot [nomounted] 8 Crusader’s Boots of Stamina

There are a couple lightweight addons that do this.

Got it!! just set a macro to whatever key you want to use, i chose “num pad 4” for this particular mounting macro, in case u care to know…

Then, make sure you have ur carrot on a stick IN UR BAGS, “unequipped”… for safekeeping,FIRST… (not sure how important this really is, but it worked for me like a charm “unequipped” when doing the macro…

It works like a charm for me!!

/dismount [mounted]
/unequip Carrot on a Stick
