Cant use wow token in bag for game time on inactive account

My friend bought a token before thier account expired and now it’s not letting her access it from the character select screen to add 30 day game time.

The only reason they didnt redeem it right away was because they weren’t sure when they were going to be able to play again and looking it up online said there should be an option to use it from the character screen if the account is inactive.

Its not in her mailbox its in her bag.

Since you are posting on her behalf I don’t have a reference point to look at any of her info, such as confirming that she has a WoW Token available.

Assuming she has a WoW Token that can be redeemed for gametime, if the account is inactive she should be able to activate it from the character selection screen. If not, she’ll want to submit a ticket to our staff can take a look.

Ok thanks she’ll submit a ticket shortly

The question really here is this - did she buy her token with gold off the AH or did she buy it with IRL money/Blizzard Balance? Because while the AH token can be used for game time, if she bought one with money? It cannot be, it can only be sold for gold on the AH.

She used blizzard balance for it. I didnt realise there are 2 different tokens. So she cant use that token for game time?

Nope.

The token you buy with “outside currency” (money, Balance) is only usable to sell on the AH to generate gold in the WoW account (“inside currency”).

The token you buy in the AH with gold is what is used for game time.

I suppose you could sell the token from the outside in the AH and then turn around and immediately buy an “inside” token for game time using the gold you just acquired.

No, unfortunately, she cannot.

Thats pretty dissapointing, she put the balance on her account before they removed the 30 day game time since she figured she could use it for that, so when she came back and saw that they removed that option she figured a wow token would work.

Guess we know for next time.

Yes, the Token purchased for cash from the shop allows you to place it on the auction house to sell for gold. The one from the Auction House can be converted to Battle.net Balance or Gametime. Sorry for the confusion.

If the purchase was fairly recent she may be able to get it refunded.

Just an FYI and maybe, hopefully a future change, THIS IS NOT CONVENIENT FOR THE PLAYER. You should make it so no matter how the player buys the wow token, they can use it for game time or gold. It makes no sense keeping players from adding game time when they bought a wow token from their blizzard balance (WHICH IS REAL MONEY) to then have them turn around and sell that wow token in the AH, wait for it to sell, then buy another wow token to use for game time. THIS ACTUALLY WASTES GAME TIME!!!
