Can't socket gems

One of my alts has a socketed piece of gear (prismatic socket) but when I shift right click to put in a gem nothing happens. I should get a window to open up to place the gem in but it doesn’t do anything. I tried a different socket gear and the same thing happens.

Have you done a full UI reset (as detailed in Support article linked below) to rule out a misbehaving addon or corrupted UI?

You can also try /reload or log out and log back in to see if that resolves it before going through the hassle of a UI reset.

What is the name of the piece of gear giving you this issue? If it is a piece that has a Dominion Socket then only gems from the raid can go into them.

Edit: missed that you said it was a Prismatic Socket.

Also with that part, I think it is they aren’t seeing the socketing interface more than gems not working. Sounds like they aren’t even given a chance to insert a gem.

I tried all the above suggestions and also on a different PC and still have the same issue. I think my char is bugged.

What piece of gear is it that is not showing the socketing interface?

Can you take a screenshot and upload it to a image hosting site so you can share the link here?

Even if you cannot directly post the image, just highlight the link and click the </> icon above and then the whole link will show.

Heck, just posting on the character that’s having the issue would go a long ways in helping diagnose this. Seeing the gear in Armory could help a lot.

Does your character have the gear you’re trying to socket equipped? We’ve seen some reports that it’s not working until the item is equipped. So if you’re trying to socket it in your inventory, you might be running into this issue. Try putting it on in that case.

Here is the character I am having issue with and it is the neckpiece. https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/us/area-52/sanite

I have tried it equipped and also while in my bag and there is no difference. I do remember when I started this character that none of my key bindings saved to this one either so I had to manually add them back in.

You have character specific keybinds? (check the top right corner of your keybinds window)

If you do have character specific keybinds checked off, try unchecking that and see if it helps with this.

Well that seemed to solve this issue. I unchecked the option in the keybinds window and now I am able to socket a gem. Thank you very much.

Woot! Credit goes to a couple of GMs I saw chatting about this  When you mentioned the keybinds it reminded me of their discussion.

This is a connection between functions I never would have expected. Go figure.

I’m glad you got good advice and worked it out.

Yeah I never though about that option either.

To anyone who also has bartender, this is how I fixed the problem, Uncheck character specific key binds in the bartender addon then I disabled the addon, Uncheck character specific key binds in the normal wow settings and clicked on the defaults option, then clicked on “These settings” to only delete the keybinds and not the whole UI.
