Accounts are more secure with an authenticator than a text message
Most banks are slowly rolling into using similar authentications like blizzard is

Why not? I have a 5+ year old Samsung J3V that came with my contract. I have had it forever. Pretty sure the Auth works on it if I want to.
As long as it is apple or android you should be fine.

or go get a cheaper burner smart phone thats android based and get it off the google store you dont NEED to have service to use it just an internet connection

Authenticator is a free app where is so called profit you claim out of?
Other topic says you can download nox on your pc to download the authentator don’t know if it works or not can anyone confirm.
It must be doing something that’s not basic to need a modern phone. I can play CR just fine, should be a lot more involved than an authenticator connecting your verified phone to Blizz
That won’t work anymore. They make you enter a phone number now to set up the Authenticator. A pre-paid number or VOIP will come up as not valid. You also need a number that matches the country on your account.
i have it on a fire tablet atm and i dont need to enter a phone number or whatever for that now
It’s a great way to lock your account out due to it being an emulator
I dont trust any company who want there stuff on your phone its not there .its your
Code changes over time requiring you to upgrade for better function.

The first build of the patch 9.1.5 PTR is here, and we’ve already found strings indicating several new requirements for using the Looking for Group finder. Players will now be required to attach an authenticator in order to use some LFG features, and will not be able to post groups which require Mythic+ or PvP ratings higher than their own. While the strings are not completely clear as to which LFG features can be used without an authenticator, it seems likely that you will be able to join groups, just not list them yourself.
Update: Blizzard has made a bluepost noting the addition of these new requirements, confirming that groups can still be joined without an authenticator. It appears that an authenticator will only be required to create groups with custom text, which may presumably be intended to help cut down on some sale-related spamming. It seems that regular auto-generated groups can still be formed without it.

hate to break it to you any app you use android or apple already knows most of what your doing including your service provider.
Might as well just use it
So, are the spammers just so lazy that they won’t bother setting up an authenticator on an account they just hacked? They already have the password, and must have switched the emai. The authenticator is free, so, why won’t they do that? It’s take just a minute right?
I mean, I laud the idea but I’m just curious how much of a burden it really is.

No…it’s called a budget.
When you spend ~$500 on a matching pair of workstations and parts to rebuild into the peak glory to last 7+ more years.
Also, running Win10 just fine. They’re not going to bump everyone off that for a while because Win11 requires UEFI BIOS

You say that but I could show you a screen shot of about a dozen emails from Steam about someone trying to access my account and the only thing that stopped them is the two factor authentication. And it’s not like I use easy to guess passwords, hell half the time I can get them right and have to request a change
