I had this problem last night. I’m a returning player and started both Shadowlands and Dragonflight but hadn’t gotten far in either. I could not fly even in a zone I previously was able to fly in. Every flying mount was re-designated as Skyriding but would not rise into the air. For me there was no button on the mount page (nor in the general abilities page) that people told me about which would supposedly switch between skyriding and static riding (or whatever).
I went into my alt furthest on the Dragon Isles quests - my dracthyr - and did the Dragon Riding quests. Once I did that, flight was back on my alts. So, yes, you need to do the Dragon Riding quests (about ten minutes once you get to the Ruby Life Pools).
It seems right now we are obligated to do the intro of DF up to the moment where we get Dragonriding to solve the issue. Lost some hours over there and “fixed” my problem the hard way…
I had the. same issue, went to my collection icon and clicked mounts, on the top you will see an icon for skyriding drop down box and there is where you find switch flight styles, you can drag the switch flight styles to your action bar. click on that and you can ride like normal in stormwind. hope this helps
The campaign is designed so you have to do the quests in order. So that wouldn’t even be an option. And it’s about halfway through the zone.
thank you…this helped me…i had to wait the several seconds for it to implement but thank you omg
I suddenly lost the ability to fly after leaving a battleground (when it ended), the mount became ground mount in the bg, but after it remained ground mount, and it would not let me fly, even logged out and in but same thing

When I first logged in tonight, I was able to flight. I accidently hit the switch flight mode, and now it will not allow me to fly. Any ideas? Flight style I am currently in is “Steady”
Certain continents require the pathfinder achievement for steady flight. Change back to skyriding.
