Can't fly on any of my characters

It’s part of the campaign quest and it’s introduced early on.

Small update - I breezed through the Pandaria Remix intro and now my Remix character can skyride/dragonfly/cloudshuffle or whatever. I still don’t have the button in my mount journal to toggle between the two types though, and I have a feeling when I swap back to any of my other characters, they’ll still be grounded. Will update in a few minutes.

EDIT: Ayup, as I thought. My Remix character has skyriding, but none of my other characters do. Additionally, they cannot use static flying either, so they are completely grounded and limited to ground mounts. I’m gonna go to bed, hopefully tomorrow there’s news of a fix.

Yep, works fine for me in remix too, it’s a retail bug for sure. As long as it’s on the list it’ll get fixed… eventually.

Yep, it was the campaign quests and specifically Dragonflight I had to do. Took a bit, but got all that I needed unlocked I think.

To piggyback off my original post we noticed that at the top right of the screen where the DF logo would normally be to check your rep and such… he had the logo from shadowlands which is when he last played those toons. I think the bug assumes you’re playing an old expansion and since in those old xpacs the changes in riding didn’t exist i.e. chromie time it assumes you can’t fly period. Truly an odd bug I imagine they’ll patch it but ultimately we got around it by getting him to do the DF campaign and level to 61

Hey seriously , THANK YOU.

To summarize, it seems the bug here is that players who didn’t have Dragonriding unlocked in DF for specific characters were still defaulted to “Skyriding”-style flight on patch release instead of static flight even though they couldn’t use it?

Back prior to this patch, the only thing I had to do on Alliance characters to get the Dragon Isles summary was to turn in the initial quest to Wrathion in Stormwind. After that, the character could dragonride in the Isles. It also kinda sounds like they moved that requirement.

Have the dragon flying abilities on my level 64 druid but am missing ability for Steady Flight both within the mount collections screen and spell book.

2 other toons, mage 45 and priest 46 can’t fly at all anymore as of today.

Disabled addons, complete restart of client, etc. - issues still persist.

Ok, I’m a tentatively returning player. I haven’t played since about midway through Shadowlands, so I’m still trying to wrap my head around all of this.

As I now understand it, in order to use an ability I have had since TBC, I now have to complete a series of quests in Dragonflight, to unlock a new ability that I’m not even sure I even want or care about, in order to get the ability to cast some “spell” to finally get back to where I was before all this started. (And, yes, I’m in my 70s, arthritis is becoming an issue and I’m a bit cranky. So get off my lawn!)

Have I got all this right?

This is what I was looking for, and found it, having zoned into Shadowlands. Cheers, and I wish for everyone stuck in some bug to be free of it sooner than later ;w;

Ok… so after the update my mount couldnt fly either. The Flight Style Switch did not exist for me in my Spellbook or Mount Menu. I was half way through Battle For Azeroth Campaign Quests. Those quests deactivated when I portal’d to Kuruun or whatever… so open the Quest Log, reselect the Battle For Azeroth Campaign Quest, then you should be able to fly on your mount again normally. I can now. My issue is most likely an unfinished expansion with a new expansion added. Hopefully this helps.

New observation - I logged into a level 30 character I had that was close to leveling, did a few quests on him, and leveled up - and he was able to fly! No dynamic flight, nor did the button to switch flight styles appear in the mount journal, but I was at least able to take off and fly using steady flight. I then switched back to this character to see if he could now fly…and no, he cannot.

I would gain a level on this character but then that would pull me out of Chromie Time, which I definitely do not want (I’m doing all the Loremaster achievements on this guy, playing chronologically through all the expansions). And no, sadly, Chromie Time has not yet been extended to level 70. Seems like they’re holding it back for the full TWW launch.

So…once again, I’m out of ideas.

I wonder if buying a level 70 character boost would give my characters the ability to fly again. I was hoping Blizz would do another maintenance today and fix these issues, but I guess they’re letting the bugs marinate for a while.

Same here. Quitted during Shadowlands and never played DF.

Before starting WW I want to finish SL and DF, but since pre-patch I can`t steady fly anymore.

I won`t skip ahead to DF just to unlock regular flight again and then come back to SL to finish it, so I hope they provide a fix soon.

This is so not kewl…none of my aviators (aprox 45+) can not fly. I have ‘WORKED’ to enable flying thru Shadowland ( I no longer purchase new expansion due to all things Pathfinder and not interested and dreading starting the Dragonflight expansion ) but now cannot fly in any area. What the heck Blizzard ??? Come on…with all your talent you can’t make what was working continue to work. ???

UPDATE: In this order: I submitted a bug report, log out of WOW, Installed the addon "Bye Bye Gryphons, logged out of Blizzard Acccount/Forum, Logged back into the WOW, reset my addon “Cursorglow” and like magic…all my avatars that could fly …can take to the sky and fly once more.
/Thinks to self: “It JUST shouldn’t be this hard to play a game”

Kamona…honestly feel your pain, REALLY. Been playing WOW since before Cataclysm went life. I’ve often read about the next new WOW killer. Seems to me, Blizzard is their own worst enemy. I’m thinking this is a sign and its time to leave…

Same issue here, returning player, never played DF, my lvl60 char is now grounded and my timerunner can only fly steady and no icon to change it, be it in spell book or mount collection screen.

Leveling up to the next level fixed this for me.

This also worked for one of my alts! Sadly, for those of us level-locked to 60 so we don’t get pulled out of Chromie Time, this isn’t a great solution. :dracthyr_cry_animated:

According to today’s hotfix, this has been fixed:

Fixed a bug where a player may have been unable to fly if they had not previously unlocked Skyriding/Dragonriding. Any player-characters in this state will now automatically turn on Static Flight mode when they log in.

I personally am not experiencing this issue, but 2 of my 8 friends who play with me on the regular are also experiencing this same issue. We have found no discernable cause - nothing those 2 have in common that the rest of us don’t, nothing those 2 are missing that the rest of us aren’t, etc.
