Can't enable XMP

I just tried to enable XMP (ram was running at 2133 previously) through my BIOS, however it caused an error and I had to go back to my last configuration. I have two sticks of 4GB DDR4 Viper RAM and an MSI Z170A Pro motherboard. Is there anything that might cause this?

What are the specs of the ram?

Does it have an xmp profile?

Have you updated your bios?

The ram is Viper Patriot 2x4GB DDR4-3000. I have not updated my bios yet; the RAM should have a xmp profile but I’m not sure. There was an option for it in my BIOS so I assumed it would. My RAM is actually currently not in a dual-channel slot, so I’ll fix that and then see if it helps.

Look at the manual and make sure your dimms are in the correct slots

If it has an XMP profile the option will show in the XMP setting in your BIOS (it’ll say “profile 1” and “profile 2”). If its DDR4 I’m sure it does. You do have to remember that XMP is an overclock and sometimes the motherboard can’t be stable with the setting. Had that happen with some DDR3 2400 in an AM3+ board. Enabled XMP and it would blue screen. Tried DDR3 2133 and it worked. You may have to bump up the voltage a bit to get it stable.

My motherboard does fully support XMP speeds. The issue was just that I didn’t have the memory in the recommended slots, as I moved them over and now it enabled as expected.

XMP speeds are not guaranteed. Your best bet might to be ensure you’ve got the sticks in the proper slots and updated BIOS. Contrary to what trolls on this forum tell you, Intel is just as susceptible to bad OCing.

It’s just much less common.

Any proof of this other than your speculation?

I’m not going to go digging through forums and nonexistent statistical surveys

But I can tell you that in my experience and according to most people on the internet, Intel will have generally less problems with ram compatibility than Ryzen.

If anything, the intel platform itself has just been around longer.

In another words, no you don’t have any proof and are just making things up again.

Thanks

The funny part is you think you’re right.

Where’s the proof to anything you’re claiming?

Be prepared to get links that dont actually support what she is saying, and in fact prove her wrong, but for her to incessantly claim that they do in fact support what she’s saying.

Nice deflection attempt at a double negative. Still no proof from Salhezar, Mordrid or Kagthul of any claims, just making up false statements again with no proof.

Projecting much?

You’re a troll. No one here supports you. Even people who otherwise vehemently disagree with one another can all agree on one thing:

You’re an ignorant troll. You don’t know what you’re talking about. You’ve NEVER proven any of your statements correct. Not once. I’d also go so far as to say you’re a flagrant liar, too.

I’d love to just be able to put you on ignore, but Blizzard felt the need to subject me to your lying ignorant drivel.

So i guess ill just downvote every post you make until Blizzard’s stupid automated system makes you go away.

The support of trolls who cry about hardware and can’t even read graphs properly is of no value to anyone. You can vehemently disagree on whatever you like. Facts and data don’t change based upon your ignorance.

You’re more than welcome to keeping making up BS. Don’t expect it to go unchallenged and then cry about it when getting called out.

But that’s how you become banned on the forums

The only one with the inability to read the graphs correctly was you. I also read the article which came WITH the graphs… and said THE EXACT OPPOSITE of what you claimed it did. Literally the exact opposite.

Ill sanitize this for Blizzard’s tender morals, but there’s a saying:

If you run into a jerk in the morning… you ran into a jerk. If you run into jerks all day… you’re the jerk.

Let that sink in.

The staggering amount of irony here.

Kiddo… you’re the one who never backs anything up with facts. Ever. Not. ONCE. You have LITERALLY NEVER DONE IT.

I get that you are projecting and trying desperately not to be wrong, but you ARE wrong. You’ve literally NEVER been proven right. Again… not even once.

Since ive literally never done that… whatever. Keep on trolling, kiddo.

You haven’t challenged anything.

Ever.

You’ve been proven wrong on every issue you’ve contested. 100% of the time.

The only person that seems to think otherwise is you.

Thats called being delusional.
