Can't delete account

I’ve tried all 4 options on the account deletion page, and I got denied on each one saying the option was locked for trying too many times. This is the first time I’ve ever tried doing this obviously, so the system must be broken.

Not to my knowledge it isn’t. Try clearing your cookies/cache - or a different browser, see if that helps.

I tried a different browser and same result, denied.

You may have hit some kind of timer then, I’d try back again a bit later.

How could I have hit a timer when today was the first time EVER I’ve tried doing this?

The timer was probably triggered from trying too many times like you mentioned in your first post, its a safety procedure.

Well I got the mentioned result on THE FIRST ATTEMPT, so not sure how that’s possible.

Are you trying to close a Battlenet account? Or just a WoW Starter Edition? Or something else?

The former appears to be just a checkbox and a “Proceed” button (which I’m not going to test!), not something that has four options.

The latter I can’t test due to a lack of Starter Editions.

A full account I’ve had for some time. I was told on the phone that they had received a significant volume of these requests and that I should submit a ticket with photo-id. I did that and I’m waiting for the deletion to get processed.

Ah ok.

If you were able to get a ticket in, then you should be all set in getting the process started.

I wasn’t crazy about sending a picture of my ID, but if that’s what it takes to get this done then so be it.

They already have the information required on-file. But they aren’t in the same room as you, so they need to make sure it’s really you making the deletion request.

If the photo is ultimately required to process the request, why even have the other verification options in the first place?

I suspect it’s not the photo so much as it’s the ID’s info and account’s info matching. On other words, the account holder is actually the one making the request.

I completely get that, I’m just wondering why the other verification options are even there if they are insufficient.

For my own curiosity, what other things did they ask for? (I haven’t done an account closure.)

When you first click the checkbox saying you want to process an account deletion, you are greeted with a verification page containing 4 button options (sms, authenticator, email, and secret question). Underneath those 4 is a hypertext link for submitting a ticket with photo id. If the photo ID is required for the process, the other 4 buttons shouldn’t even be on the page.

They require full pic id for account closer because we have had people come here saying a jilted lover roomate wife child went and either accidently or maliciously done stuff to the account. in account closer its 100% permanat and cant be reversed thats why the extra security is needed.

Read my post just above yours.

Oh I see.

I suspect it is to have a multi-factor authentication since people are essentially walking away from their money (products they paid for). So Bliz wants to be overly certain it’s truly the account owner. And because it’s forever permanent too.

Just speculating though.
