Last time my account expired I logged on retail to use gold to get another month. I have around 4 million gold on my main and several thousand more on alts on the same realm. Token price at the time was around 300k, but it said I didn’t have enough gold on any realm. I bought a month normal mode and it still shows the 3.8m on my main. Opened a ticket, no response.
Any thoughts? Do I need to put gold in the warbrand bank for it to work?
Need the gold on your character in order to purchase a WoW Token to for game time. And with no active game time as well, the characters that you can only log into are level 20 or under, along with starter accounts restrictions. (And if I also recall, Starter editions or unfunded licenses do not have access to the Warbank.)
Sorry, but you’ll need to fund your account by other means in order to get game time. Now, you could try submitting a ticket to request for 1 day to able to fund your account by purchasing a WoW Token, but it is a very rare guarantee that it would happen too.
EDIT:
Can’t purchase from character select
It is not possible to buy a WoW Token from the character select screen in Cataclysm Classic.
In Modern WoW, if your game time has expired, you can purchase a WoW Token for gold from the character select screen by clicking the Reactivate Now button. Each character on a single realm will contribute gold to the price of the Token.
EDIT 2:
Also, have you recently purchased a WoW Token for real money? Because that could prevent you from purchasing a WoW Token with gold too.
A couple of quick things to consider: First, the gold has to be on a character. If it’s in your Warband or guild bank, it is not going to be considered. Next, make sure you are logged onto that realm. It’s a little more confusing with warbands, but make sure you go to the realms tab and “log on” to the realm where the gold is located.
If these don’t work, then you may need to fund it a different way. You can ask for a one-time courtesy of a day to gather the gold and purchase your month, but this may be something they have done away with. Never hurts to ask and see if they still do it.
When did you open the ticket? Did you get a confirmed ticket number? No tickets go without a response, so you’re likely still in line.
Reading this also reminded me about this change from a year ago:
If this applies to you, Tarcilen, then you have to purchase a month of game time and also wait for the 30 days to be consumed. After that, then you be able to resubscribe using gold on the Character Select screen.
It was this account, I thought I did a ticket but apparently not. Maybe just a bug report? Was about a month ago. Had 3+million gold on a character, not bank or warband bank. I ended up using balance to pay my sub since the gold transaction was disabled.
Was this intended or not? I have occasionally bought tokens on the AH but until recently I’ve just paid from the login screen when I’ve wanted to use gold. This was the second time I’ve gotten the not enough gold message, only to eventually log in and see I have plenty.
There used to be an additional stipulation (as recently as last August, as I recall) in conjunction with drawing gold off all characters on a single realm in that it also could not zero out the gold on any of those characters. Having the 3.8M gold on one character in the past would have made you ineligible.
I don’t see it mentioned in any of the support articles now, but perhaps it’s still holding onto some old code that still performs that way? I would suggest a bug report, in this case.
I’ve never purchased a token with real money, only with gold. However, I have used gold more often than not when resubbbing. Perhaps I had not done a regular subscription since that change that was referenced, so it would not allow me to purchase a token. I have now used money to pay for my subscription a couple of times since the first error, so hopefully that fixes the issue for the future.
