I attempted to restore a character on Nightslayer, but I got this error:
You already have an active character with that name. You can’t restore this character at this time.
then, it put my restore button on a 24 hour cooldown. however, I did not have an active character with that name. how can I get my character restored?
The cooldown is normal, not sure why it didn’t work.
I’d pop in a ticket, let them know self-help didn’t work. Do be sure to include the specific character in question.
Thanks for the reply - did try a ticket awhile ago, but so far nothing more than automated responses to unrelated self-help articles.
Put in another ticket if you haven’t and just make sure you’re telling them only the facts needed.

Just wanted to chime in that I had this exact same issue happen just now. Attempt to restore met with “You already have an active character with that name. You can’t restore this character at this time.”
Why is it normal that it initiates the restore cooldown if it fails? That doesn’t seem right to me. I could see a shorter, maybe 30 minute or hour long cooldown just so people aren’t spamming the system, but why does a failure mean I can’t try anyone else for another entire day?

If I try to restore my toon but someone else took the name I get the error of
“There is already an active character with that name on this realm. You can’t restore this character at this time”
I’d be happy to rename it with an extra “n” on the end or something, but it just flat out says no, can’t restore, someone has that name now.
Do i do a bug report on the forums or make a lvl 1 toon to try and make a ticket in game with the toon’s name that I can’t restore?
How long has it been since you deleted that character? I don’t know if either will help you at this time, you may just be trying to restore it at a time when the system is hard-coded to prevent it.
There is a 30-day wait period I’ve seen mentioned from time to time when it comes to the name being taken after you’ve deleted the character, but I’m unsure if it’s 30 days after said deletion or if it’s 30 days after the name is taken by someone else.
When those 30 days are up you should then get the rename option.
If the character was deleted for 30+ days you generally should have the option to rename it.
If it has been over 30 days, assuming the character holding the name doesn’t belong to you, and you don’t have the option please submit a ticket. A Game Master should be able to assist.
If you own the character holding the name, you may need to delete that character so you can recover the other character.
It was only deleted for like a week. Didn’t think I wanted to play it but changed my mind. Now I just get that error. Another account has a toon with that name now.
Is it only after 30 days that I could get it back by renaming it? Otherwise I gota make a lvl 1 and contact an in game GM? That’s the only way I know of to get a GM, but I don’t know the forums that well.
It is after 30 days that the rename option should become available if the name is otherwise taken.
If taken by you, we are generally unable to intervene and the character holding the name would need to be renamed and/or deleted.
If taken by another’s account, then we may be able to assist and I’d recommend putting in a ticket to inquire.
Why would you need to make a level 1 character to contact a Game Master? The option is available in-game as well as through the Support site (you do have several characters you can log into in order to create the ticket).

I think that’s more from folks telling tales of old where GMs would appear in game.
Yeah. Back in 2007 I put in a ticket and had a GM whisper me in game on a new toon I had to make cause my account was taken over and all toons deleted. Talked to them for like 30 minutes in the human starting zone, I think I still have those screenshots. It was neat.
