I setup my son with his own account to try World of Warcraft Classic to see if this would be something he would be interested to play with me. It was my understanding we could play for free up until level 20 even on Classic. If he wants to continue playing beyond that we would need to then purchase game time. We have his account setup, I have a World of Warcraft Starter Edition added to his game account which should allow him to play for free. When we kick off the game and get to the list of servers to chose, when we select a server we receive the following error: “Active game time is required in order to play World of Warcraft Classic (WOW51900331).” If I have to acquire game time doesn’t this defeat the purpose of playing the game for free? I want my son to try the game risk free first to see if he likes it before we start a subscription. I don’t know what else to do with his account in order to resolve this.
Only normal World of Warcraft can be played up through 20 without game time. Classic would require game time in order to be accessible, even at lower levels.
You could have your son try the starter edition of normal WoW, though, to see if he likes it.
Thanks for your response. I again went back and re-read the Starter Edition limitations and found this I just didn’t notice:
World of Warcraft Classic characters are not accessible on Starter Edition accounts
We’ll either switch to the normal Warcraft servers or I guess we’ll have to purchase game time if I want them to start with Classic which I would want them to. Thanks again.
Any time, I hope he enjoys Azeroth with you!
Is your son a minor by chance? If so he can create a character on your account and access Classic to give it a shot.
Just know your account is liable for anything he might do. Chat, shady software etc
I am in no way suggesting he would. Just a conversation I had with my son before I let him try it out myself haha.
