I am trying to use/add my new debit card in paying for my WoW subscription, but I continue to get an error when trying to do so. I have plenty of money in the account, and I have deleted all of my prior payment methods and cleared my cache to no avail. Can someone please help me?
Make sure that you’ve filled out the correct billing address information and payment method associated with the card. IE: You may have listed the wrong zip code as your bill for that card may come to another zip code. Make sure any information you’ve listed within your account is correct and associated to your payment method.
Trust me, I have done all the things that you suggested. It would be nice if I was given a reason for the error, but when I try to add the new card as a payment method, all I get is a bar across the top that says “An error has occurred”. No other information is given.
is this a bank/atm/debit visa/master card or is it a pre-paid type card? if it’s a prepaid type card you may have issue with that type of payment. The card needs to be assigned to your bank account and have clearance from your bank as to allow for this withdraw. For instance, This morning I went to rockauto and attempt to purchase an air filer, but the card I used was not accepted as it was a pre-paid card. In other words, if you went to the store and purchased a per-paid visa card, it would not be accepted only bank issues cards are accepted or the game time cards. if you go this route… you will have to locate the “Blizzard” card to assign time to your game account. if you use the “battlenet” card this will assign money to your account to be used for shop items, chara boost and pets/mounts and not game time.
I thought I was clear with the fact that this is a debit card that is attached to my bank account. Sorry, I don’t mean to sound snarky, but I have never had this type of problem before in my 19 years of playing WoW.
Then you will need to call or goto your bank to see if they have placed a hold on your account. In the past I use to try and other items from over seas, but our bank puts a hold on our account because of this… We’ve now had to call the bank and let them know that we’ll be making this purchase and give them the information. The bank would then see the transaction and allow it. i suspect that if your bank placed a hold on your account it’s for security reasons… so best check with them.
I just got off the phone with them. They tell me that they don’t see any transactions coming in from Blizzard or any other entity.
The only other option would be to use a different web browser as your setting/blocking/cookies etc could be set too high. if you have an ad blocker this could interfere with the data transfer.
I am using the Battle Net app.
App as in your cell phone?.. I would log your account page to do this type of transfer.
Yes. I am using the Battle Net app on my cell phone, just as I have for the past year or so when paying for my subscription time (aside from the occasional WoW token).
Check to see if the app is up to date or needs to be updated.
Ok, I just tried to use the website instead of the app. I get a slightly different message, but it is telling me that “we have encountered an issue when completing your transaction”. I am at a loss . And yes, my app is up to date.
I’m not seeing anything that stands out, Cedric. I just checked the site by removing and adding a payment method and it seems to work for me. That isn’t a guarantee we don’t have an underlying issue, but nothing points to it so far.
Have you tried different methods of payment, Cedric? Maybe see if something like Paypal works?
No, I have not tried any other payment options as I am currently limited to using the debit card that I am attempting to use.
The thing is, I am able to use this card to make other online purchases and I also use the card locally for POS purchases without issue.
