Cannot add friend - No error shown

I have spoken to support on other issues with my account - example, armory you cannot see my character.

another issue is when someone was tying to friend me, says account not found??
then I gave them my battle id, that worked with no error, but I STILL did not get the request

So i tried adding, and they got nothing as well.

Can someone take a deeper look in to my account? I have everything on publick now, but doesnt seem to make a difference. People cannot see me.

Thanks

For battle net does your friend have an account in another region?

Being in different regions - or one having the other on ignore would be my first two suggestions to check.

if you mean different server? the (*) by their name: Yes
no one on ignore

If you mean area, we were side by side fishing

I was actually referring to region, but if you see each other, that shouldn’t be the issue.

Your friends list isn’t full by any chance?

You could try a reset UI, although in this case - while it is possible something is impacting, this would be more of a step to rule-out the cause.

Reset UI https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/7549

Otherwise, I’d pop in another ticket. As to the Armory, I’m afraid we have no control over that, that is typically just an update issue and it can take time.

I would suggest a UI Reset. Your UI may have become corrupted, from either an existing Addon that is messing with your UI and preventing you from friending someone or receiving friend requests, or from just time. This is usually a good spot to start, since the other issues are coming up negative.

A couple of things to check:

  • Are they also on Alliance? You can only friend people on the same faction.
  • It looks like your server (at least the one of your posting character) is linked to Dentarg. If they were on any other realm, then you’d need to use the Battle.net option.
  • When you tried to add them by name, you used the following format: /friend name-realmname with no spaces.

Some troubleshooting that you can try for friend requests through battle.net:

I haven’t seen this mentioned, but if you add a single character to your friends list in-game, there won’t be any notification on the other user’s unless you’re using a BattleTag/Real ID. The in-game friends list predates BattleTag, and works differently:

  • You can only add people on your realm (not Connected Realms, just singular realm)
  • You can only add people on your faction
  • As mentioned, you can add anyone and they will not see that you added them.
  • The in-game friends list prioritizes your BattleTag/Real ID friends first, followed by your in-game friends, and lists the latter alphabetically, and by online status.

You mentioned that adding through BattleTag worked. Is that correct?

@Orlyia if it was, mine was not, and they sent me a request too. no go (and no error)

It would help if you could answer/clarify some of the points we raised above too. Are they on your realm? Are they the same faction etc.?

@Perl,
very difficult when blizz puts a limit on when you can reply, i keep getting a popup that says “please wait til someone responds”. Hopefully this reply gets through. This topic is unnecessary overdone.

my character SHOULD SAY whisperwind, as that is where i have been playing for the last 2 months. If you are seeing crypticlock on dentarg, that is a Blizz issue. which then would be an issue

same realm, same faction. However, this was never an issue in the past. And should not be one now - we’re talking about adding IRL friends - you know, making friends. It would help if they brought that ability back. the only limit back in the day was the faction limitation.

Asking if we are from a different faction, is moot , because there is no communication online due to the language barrier. yes I am aware there may be other methods (such as a phone call), however, even if this is true, we’re still talking about adding friends,

If it is a road block because of different faction, different realm or different regions, different race, different class - FIX IT. People do not want to jump up and down, pat their head, and twirl around, when it is much easier to
PRESS “O”
ADD A FRIEND
TYPE NAME
DONE!

Why is this a problem? Why so many questions? I was just trying to add a new friend I met, Now I can’t, because I don’t remember their character name. I don’t remember this being an issue up to cata. Did something change?

I thought maybe there was an account issue. But according to all the questions, and guessing, it is much larger than that.

Mousing over your icon, that’s what I’m seeing in the URL.

That limitation still exists, and is presently the only limitation that exists when it comes to adding character names. Battle.Net friends do not rely on that.

I guess I’m just confused, because this literally is all you need to do. It even gives you the option of adding a character name or a Battletag. You can even just right-click someone’s name and there’s an option right there to choose from; I just can’t specifically recall where that option is available.

Someone asked this earlier and you didn’t say that you’d done it, but this sounds rightly like a display problem, which is on your end. Have you done the UI reset linked earlier?

sorry for being a little short, but there were too many questions about region, faction etc… none of them applied (except faction).
So back to my OP, she sent a request, and it said player not found, so i have her my battlenet id, and it went off fine on her end (no errors)
After I bit I tried again - above steps - went off fine no errors, but neither she nor I ever got a request from each other.

that is the OP in short. I was able to add a friend a few weeks ago, but have not been able since. That was all that I was asking about. I was hoping for a blue to address it, the rest of the posts were guessing. The only limitation is faction. So if NEITHER of us are successful at adding each of us as a friend, then we have a technical issue., which is why I started small with a post.

So if I understand it, this is going to need a ticket?

Can you clarify what you mean by this part? Because there’s only one step required from each party when adding friends via Battletag-- one of you sends the request and the other accepts it(the going off fine part, is my assumption?), then you’re both on each other’s list. Simply put-- if she was able to add your Battletag to her friend’s list, then she’s already on your list.

To be fair, that’s all an SFA would be able to assist with, too. They aren’t right next to you as this all happens, that’s why troubleshooting is what we’re mainly here for. You did also post in a Support forum which is primarily for players to help other players.

But they, too, aren’t seeing what you’re seeing, so I must definitely caution that you exercise patience while everyone tries to understand what you’re trying to convey. There’s presently no issue with adding people to one’s friend list. Or, at the very least, it isn’t widespread. It could very well be something happening in the code, but that’s what all the questions people are asking are aiming to discover.

In reference to the different regions part, that cannot be as easily fixed. The different regions in which WoW is located around the world (Americas, Europe, Korea, Taiwan, and China) are not connected in any way.

The Americas region (which is the region in which we are playing) consists of the following server areas: North America (United States, Canada, & Mexico), Latin America, Oceanic (Australia & New Zealand), & Brazil.

So as long as your friend is playing in the Americas region, then adding each other to your friends list shouldn’t be an issue.

@Ekon, No one had any errors when the request was sent. However looking on each of our friends lists, there was no requests, and each of our names did not exist. We would have thought that if it was not successful, there would have been some type of error. The red flag was when she added me by my character name and it said “player not found” - thus why I sent her my battlenet ID. When she entered that, there was no error, but I never got the request.

You are correct - patience - sorry

@Kyzera
Same region - she was two states away from me. and you are corect - it should’nt be an issue. but it is/was.

Thanks!

I do wish you luck in getting the issue resolved.

There is also a limit to the number of pending friend requests. Unfortunately, they never timeout.

One or both of you may have hit that limit.
