I didnt know this was a thing till I googled it. It explained so much to me and my friends about social media these days.

Is it “cancel culture,” or is it just repercussions?

I would call it the modern day lynch mob.

Your boss may fire you if you’re under investigation. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

That’s for the court to decide, not a business.

Basically my take on it.

So how do business decide then? Irrational emotions? Societal pressure?

PR, overwhelming evidence, etc.

Is this the dawn of cancel culture, or merely the end of “get away with it” culture?

How they decide everything: $$$

That does not address my concern though. You are basically shrugging off the idea of someone losing their livelihood before there is any proof of a transgression taking place. Is that really something you are okay with?

Business decisions should be made with the health of the business in mind, not the well-being of a single individual. 99% of people don’t read their contracts or understand what “at-will” truly means…

I’ll refer you to a comment above:

When there is overwhelming evidence, absolutely. Police typically drop rape cases because they are so very difficult to prove. Justice must be had in other ways.

All you need is a rifle in hand and a mob headed to the home of the person you assumed to be guilty.

Unprofessional, unethical, inappropriate at work are not illegal.

Business should still terminate you regardless.

And in this particular case… there’s PLENTY of evidence currently rolling all sorts of social media.
