Can you name your character after a celebrity?

Is it allowed? I don’t think it is but I don’t see it in the rules?

It is mentioned in the additional rules for RP servers subsection, they are not permitted.

If it is a normal or PvP realm, you must aim to not use a polarizing person or else you run the risk of being sanctioned for disruption.

Sounds like the answer is NO. Cause it can be argued any celeb could be polarizing.

Naming your character Kevinbacon isn’t likely to be an issue, barring the RP stipulations mentioned above.

Naming your character after a controversial celebrity or well-known person, especially as it relates to current events, is very much an invitation to be reported.

Could be if he’s ever said anything controversial, which I bet he has. A good lawyer (or a person who argues like a lawyer) could probably make a case against the name.

You do you. Not sure why you asked the question if the goal was just to argue about the answer.

If this about a name for your own character - if you think the name might be reported, assume that it will and choose something less edgy. If this is about someone else’s name, and you think it might be inappropriate, report it and let Blizzard make that determination.

Wasn’t Asmon griping about that recently? Someone was using his name or a form of his name in game.

Not on RP servers. See “Additional Rules for Role Playing Realms”:

  • Names that reference well known people, characters, brands, places, or icons (For example: Britneyspears, Austinpowers, Mcdonalds, Georgewashington, Newyork)

On RP realms, absolutely not.

It states perfectly clear, in the naming policy (especially under the “Additional Rules for Role Playing Realms”). Links of Interests:
