Can you make a living playing WoW?

I’m talking legitimately without doing anything that would get you banned (like selling gold for RL money.)

I’m also not talking about the 1% of 1% of Streamers. The vast vast vast majority of Streamers don’t make NEAR what most people claim. I have had in game discussions with 2 medium size streamers and their income from Twitch and other sources was like around $1,500/$2,000 a month. And they are quite popular. They both said something to the effect of “people think we make hundreds of thousands of dollars but it isn’t even close to that”. $1,500 isn’t making a living, it’s supplementing.

What about like Mythic raiders for world first? They make money from sponsors or other sources? Guild members or officers of Echo or Limit. They pull in cash?

Purely curious on this as it was a discussion in a group last night.

It is possible to make a living through just WoW (streaming).

Is it an endeavour worth pursuing for 99.99995% of people? Nope.

If it’s the intention to do so, then you’d be wanting to treat it like a job. I feel like my current job which gives a lot more is a lot easier than that.

I would say yes but is it worth it? I dunno. Then again, when I look at the sources of some of my income there are reasons I use pseudonyms (giggle).

not anymore, wow subs are down likely ~1mil left, its viewership dropped on twitch
Also almost no more tournaments left being run, only world first races gain any traction.

content creators swapped to Final Fantasy

My mind suddenly springs to life at what deep, dark secrets our dear sweet Grumbles could possibly be hiding o.o

But yeah, people can make a living at WoW doing things on the up & up but why would you want to make it your whole life on the very small chance you’re the next Asmongold?

you mean new world, the game with actual viewers

I played with a guy in bfa who streamed as a part time job. Had anywhere from 3-400 subs and it was enough to drop down his hours at work to just a couple of days. Took him ages to build up though and he had to do key carries all day lol

I do believe a person can,you just have to have that certain charm .

Sponsers / clicks / donations so yea you can but u gotta be really really popular .

For example, the number one videos online are cat videos and animals. Who can resist !

Well, it is like watching a train wreck, so I get it.

New World rulez!

Eh.

It’s… not good.

But you CAN live on that, honestly comfortably enough if you only have to provide for yourself, if you live in a relatively cheap area (Hi, I live in Kansas).

That said, my limited experience with smaller twitch streamers is that a large percentage of their twitch money isn’t real and basically just makes the rounds going in circles throughout whatever community they’ve fallen into.

According to this article, you have to be in the top .015% of twitch streamers to make the median US income. So can you make a living doing it, yes…is it likely, no.

you don’t make your big bucks just from viewers, you have to be able to expand into merchandising if you want it to be more than supplemental.

I guess watching exploits is popular lol

I’m sure that some people do. I see booster ads and twitch ads often. I only make my life more enjoyable by playing WoW.

Do you mean bewbs?

If you live in an RV in Belize, then you can probably make a pretty good living at it. If you live in a “luxury apartment” in Nashville or Austin, then probably not.
